This is my first attempt at contacting your group, although I must confess
to having a real interest in reading your carry ons, your mumblings,
political viewpoints and good humoured posts to each other. I know I talk as
an outsider looking in because unlike the obvious mechanical talents of the
likes of Nate, JP or Jeff(Whoever he wants to be) Rice, I cant restore
things successfully, so am only hoping to be able to afford to buy something
really top shelf some day.
Besides this brief intro as to who I am perhaps I should add that I live in
South Australia far away from events that you guys can attend on an annual
basis. So because of my lack of experience with the Studebakers but a
growing admiration for what these great automotive pieces mean to each of
us, I only have libraries of great photos.
What I found today in a newsgroup known as  alt.binaries.pictures.autos was
and is the most amazing collection of Studebaker photos from a post
belonging to a bloke who calls himself Zinc that I can say I have ever seen.
My question to you fellas over there is :
Could some of you try identifying cars and people that you know , or are
regulars of this group and let the rest of us put faces to your names or
your cars. Or even some history on the vehicles you identify.
Hope you get to see the collection of 63 Avantes,  JP .Worth every second it
takes to download!!

Regards to you all

I'm blushing!  seriously, if I were a master mechanic I'd post a lot
less as I'd just know exactly what to do and do it :)

I am a bit proud of myself after firing that engine I bought from JP
yesterday though; I helped him put it together from a box of parts and
rebuilt all the accessories (fuel pump, carb, etc.) myself, so I've
seen pretty much every working bit of the engine.  OK, I'll stop
patting myself on the back now.

When do you become a "master mechanic" ? Even though the R1 we
rebuilt was probably one of a dozen I've built, I worry over each one,
wondering if I screwed up something. How many Studebaker master
mechanics are around that could do a better job than "amateur" N8 at
this point ?
I'm becoming convinced that the average NG'er with some basic skills
can do as least as good a job as the $75/hour pros.

The "master" status arrives upon the completion of the baiter apprenticeship...
