Been trying out a fairly new feature for the local flaps chain here in
Florida...
Discount Auto Parts (owned by Advance Auto Parts) now has online ordering.
http://www.advanceautoparts.com/
http://www.partsamerica.com/
You register and it remembers who you are (and what car/truck you are
working on)...
You put in the car/truck you are working on and you can look up your own
parts.
You select the part and the quantity and do the shopping basket routine.
Then you check out in the normal method.
I did four different orders in the last three days for side jobs and stuff I
needed.
Neat thing was you can choose the store you want to pick it up at.
Parts will be ready in an hour.
Sure was nice picking up a complete Tahoe brake job without doing the
countermonkey dance.
They were so new to it that they had to learn about it too..
But they liked it so much they even loaded the stuff in my trunk.

Yeah it's nice
I have been doing that for years - Autozone has it too.

I have been using Autozone for a preferred vendor for brand X based on
price and their free tool loan program.

Too bad the closest one is 30 miles away.......
That just makes free shipping on orders over $50 even more attractive.

It kinda stinks though that 1951 Studebaker isn't an option when choosing
"My Vehicle" online. And unfortunately, when I go into the Advance Auto near
my house, the first thing they ask is "Now who made Studebaker?"

=)

Interesting addendum to this...
Carrie and I drove up to Pat Skelly's yesterday to do a little
shopping.
On the way up the LeBaron overheated (which is wierd because that was
something that I had just 'serviced'..
(Reminds me of that flow chart.... I went right to "A": Did you f#*k
with it? <lol>)
Anyways...
We got back to his house late after shopping and I went online and
looked up and ordered the parts for the LeBaron off of Pat's 'puter.
They had ALL the items in stock at a store 3 miles from Pat's, and we
are picking them up this morning so we can install the parts tonight.
In stock.....a radiator, water pump, and thermostat...for a 15 year old
car...
Amazing in a way..

When I had an overheating problem in my '92 Lebaron, it turned out to be the
radiator fan motor.  It was turning, but not fast enough.  Chrysler used two
different styles of radiator fans in the Lebaron that year... one with
independant parts (shroud, fan motor, fan, etc.) and one as a complete unit.
Guess which one mine had... the part was $400.  Mine would only overheat if
the outside temperature was over 80 degrees and when I was stopped.

I use Advance's website for parts research/ interchange, etc.     Pat's
is a good place to seek refuge, Jerry F. and I milked a clutch fan less
suburban from Reedsville to Savannah a few years ago and Pat was kind
enough to haul me around for parts.  Pat & Emily real good people.
BTW Jeff, Emily responds well to Martin's potato chips for payback,
Pat's usually just happy to have her happy. <grin>    give me a call.

Way more than a refuge.
I really can't say enough about the Skelly's (Pat, Emily, and their son
Lee..
My weekend up there was supposed to be an upbeat exciting adventure for
Carrie and me.
It turned out to be a tortuous affair saved only by the Skelly's
hospitality, professionalism, and pity.
(I used the flowchart all weekend and always chose 'A: Did you %$#@ with
it?'... What a dufus <lol>..)
They made this weekend special, and our friendship is locked up for the long
run.
There's more to this story that will come out later, but I want to extend my
thanks to Emily and Pat.
(Oh, it sure was a pleasure swapping radiators at midnight in an air
conditioned supershop during a southern Georgia thunderstorm!)
