Nice Avanti, but pity the bidders with a dial up connection.

What's with the cheesy California "Replacement Identification Number"?

May be a rebuilt total loss at one time or another. My 63 Avanti does NOT
have that! only the original on the frame rail.

One of the pictures shows the original SN plate (although oddly it's
obscured), but I was wondering if this was some weird California thing,
perhaps they don't like Studebakers SN plates.

I know there are not enough numbers on a Avanti serial number to make
Ca. happy, so they add a "A" or a "B" to the number.

So if someone in a more reasonable state were to buy that car they could
remove that goofy California SN plate and just use the real one?

(and send the CA one to the CADMV, postage due).

California did some strange things with Avanti serial numbers.  There was
something on (I think) the Avanti Group about the Avanti serial not having
enough digits so they assigned a letter suffix.  I have owned two that had
an "A" after the number.  In this case the replacement tag still shows the
original number.  Maybe they didn't know it was on the frame and placed one
in the usual place from the title info.
