Harry came to our Florida State Meet in Vero Beach Florida back in the
mid 90's. He was a great guy!!!

My Dad said that Harry Barnes used to frequent their Studebaker
dealership in Merrick, Long Island NY. When they closed up the
dealership (then selling Datsun) in '69 to move to North Carolina, they
loaded up Harry's car "to the headliner" with prewar NOS Stude parts
from the Parts Department. There were a lot of parts too, since they
had bought out several other Stude dealership's parts departments as
they closed. Don't even ask what happened to the rest of the
parts<groan>.

In thje mid-1990s I wrote an article for TW comparing our "vanity
plates" with the British "Cherished Numbers." (They've gone for as high
as $50,000.)
Harry phoned me and asked me to start a Club or Chapter over there.
It was a very enjoyable experience with a fine group of people and,
later, the independent club became the first European Chapter. I must
thank him for that - and did!

Did you read the President's Message column in August's TW? Ed is asking
for those who have had success in starting an SDC chapter to submit their
experiences to the editors.
