Spark Plug Question

The current Champion listings show an RH18Y rather than the old H14Y for
a '64 259.  Is anyone aware of any problem with this substitution?

Not really; if you experience pinging might want to try a colder heat
range, but I have heard that you can't really compare heat ranges
between old and new Champions anyway.  The "R" is for "resistor" but
that shouldn't be a problem.

Jim,
I have run the recommended Champions for years (H10, H14Y, J12), but when I
was having fouling problems from running rich in my '64 R-2 Avanti, Norris
Edmonds gave me a set of Autolite 437s and they ran noticeably better than
the J12s. I have since put them in my '64s and '53 Commander.  I don't
believe they are a resistor plug like the current recommended Champions.  I
have been told that since flooding doesn't happen in fuel-injected cars,
modern plugs are not built to withstand flooding and are ruined by flooding.

Champion does not cover the center electrode with ceramic(glass)
anymore.
So the center electrode insulator gets soaked with carbon and
oil and shorts out.
Dick Quinn had that experience with a 1941 President.
He ran the car for a short while and the plugs fouled out.
He put in new plugs and it ran fine for a short while.

If you can find some original H14Y's ,those work the best for the V8's
In the Avant group there was a discussion about Bosch platnum plugs.
Any comments or advice from the experts?

I've had good luck with Bosch Supers; I'll agree that the platinums are
garbage though.
