so I'm probably not going to deliberately burn it to the ground,
anymore... but the car will try to if I drive it too far. P/S is
working although with some non-stock hose routing. Would still like to
get my hands on an original pressure hose if I could, I'm going to have
to R&R the P/S pump anyway. It works fine but leaks even more than the
one I took off. D'oh! I guess I will have to put a seal kit in it.
Maybe I should do both since I know the other one works well.
At least it is moving under its own power, again. Once I get a chance
to drive it some more, I may have a Saginaw P/S setup for sale; I
haven't driven it far/fast enough to see if I'm happy with the steering
box I got from Lee, but it definitely works and is noticeably tighter
than the one I took out.

Since the car obviuosly isn't stock, why are you concerned with the
stock routing of the hoses?

Because no matter how you run 'em, you can't possibly get 'em more than
3/4" or so away from the exhaust.

Ah, N8, might want to look at the spacing from the factory on Avanti's.
(3/4 inch is way more than the factory gave us)

It took me like a half hour to hook up the hoses, I don't know nor do I
care if I got the routing correct. N8 can obsess about it later. <g>

If the leaking is coming from under the reservoir, make sure the bottom
of it is flat when you replace the gaskets under there. I had mine
apart 3 times to replace gaskets and it would start leaking again in
short order. I finally checked the bottom of the tank with a straight
edge and it was warped. A body hammer and 2x4 took care it and its
been dry since.
I had a rebuild kit for mine but the o-rings that go between the center
section and each end were the wrong ones. I took them to a bushing and
bearing place and matched them up. The lip seal on the front shaft was
about the only part from that kit that was the correct part. It was a
old stock kit I picked up at a swap meet made by "varco".

I think most of it is coming from the reservoir, and I did make new
gaskets from cork gasket paper and buttered them pretty good with
permatex. ISTR selecting the better of the two reservoirs that I had
for this, but it still leaks. I guess I need thicker gasket paper, but
I don't know where to find it, thus I might as well just buy a kit, if I
can find it.

These pumps are incredibly simple. A seal/bearing replacement can be
done under an hour.
