Rear view mirror location

Dear Good People,

I have a 57 Silver Hawk  sans outside rear view mirrors,

Is there some where I can get the measurement for proper location,

especially for the right ( passenger side ) ?

I'm sure there's a factory specified spot, but I'd get an assistant to
hold it in various spots and see what works best for your visibility -
then check to see that it doesn't interfere with the vent window
operation. I'd rather be able to see what's behind me than have it in
the 'right' spot.
Of course, in an Avanti with the Stato-vue mirrors, that would likely be
on the passenger fender halfway to the front bumper - they look good,
but aren't worth spit for visibility. I had to settle for a convex
mirror glued to the right one.

BTW, here in CA dead people don't count in the car pool lane.

I've seen them mounted just as you describe on several Avantis.  It
looks a little odd, but not offensively so.  Certainly less weird than
some older Japanese cars that had the big honking mirrors on the front
fenders.

Some European car collectors would give a testicle or two for them, they fit
some very exoctic car.
About 15 years ago we were on a Manhattan Chapter tour of Long Island, and
we stopped at a winery and a guy
offered to buy them off one of our members Avanti.

Look in the back section of any Turning Wheels for the address of Dave
Mottle, SDC Club Historian, of Corrales NM. Dave maintains the SDC
library of factory templates for accessory information such as mirror
locations. He can copy the template for you and mail you a copy to use
for laying-out on your door to locate the mirror in the
factory-specified location, if that is important to you. BP

I contacted Dave a couple of years ago for this very reason. He told me there is no template for side view mirrors.
If you got them from the dealer, you would sit in the car and they would move the mirror around until it was where you wanted it.

Here is the measurements for AC-2836. It is very similar to AC-2728 shown
in the SI catalog. I don't know what mirrors you plan to use, but the
taller ones do provide a little better visibility. The measurements are
just a suggestion, it's more important that the mirrors are located where
you can actually get a full view. Use the A or B position, whichever is
preferred. The measurement is to the front screw hole. Instructions say to
drill and install the front screw, line up the mirror, then drill the rear
hole.
