Since work has been slow lately and I was too broke to go to Omaha due
to carrying two houses now for seven months (yeah Jeffy, you told me
so...) I got one of the disco cars started today.  It is a shame they
cut it up years ago and then let it sit under a dirt floor shed for
fifteen years.  It really was a decent car before all this buffoonery.
It will make a GREAT parts car, but if only I had a decent body for all
the good stuff this car has to offer....  The engine sounded good;
could only run it off a can and several hoses started leaking, so I
didn't run it for long.  It looks like this car was loved way back when
as there appears to be a heavy duty radiator in it and a ?factory? fan
shroud.  It's a 50 four door Champion hat has been rendered topless and
the floors are gone from sitting on the dirt.  Under the hood looks
completely unmolested but the wiring has dissolved (as usual).
Bumpers, bullet, and whole front end and rear end look decent.  I have
seen crummy bullets on ebay going for a hundred bucks, and this one is
nice.  Some of the chrome was redone years ago so it would look good
sitting inside the bar.  If anyone has a nice body to sell (left that
wide open for Calvin) or if anyone is interested in this thing before
it hits ebay drop me an email.  It also has a visor on it and much of
the dash stuff is savable.

Heh...  Sounds like you should be transferring that stuff to an old two
door sedan that I have available...

Do you want to buy this thing or sell me the sedan?

Heh...  I'm downsizing.  I ain't buying much of anything these day.

The sedan should be on eBay in two or three weeks.

(Divestiture can bring peace of mind I think..)

Oh well, I don't need another car right now.  This baby is most likely
hitting ebay next week.  Maybe someone here can put the two together.

I sure hope that Studebaker sales don't mimic the current real estate slump.

<sigh>

Old car prices (Studebakers included) go up and down all the time, kind
of in cycles.  The real estate insanity went way past the actual need
and will shake itself out (along with a ton of realtors who rode the
wave) and eventually stabilize.  A lot of houses and commercial places
will sit empty and the speculators caught on the tail end of this will
lose their a.ses.  If the Studebaker (and other) prices start falling
like stones, I will mortgage my new house and buy a bunch....after we
sell the old house....which is due to close next week....I hope...

I often think that I should have went (imitating Jeff R here) deep into
hock in the early 1970's and bought out the entire inventory of Hurwich
Iron and stashed it...

Curiosity is killing me, JT...you must have some kind of ballpark price
on your car...what kind of shape is it in and where is it?  Maybe today
I will fix the sediment bowl and run this thing for a while to really
check out the engine a little more and "yard drive" it to check out the
tranny and rear.  This car has a lot of little extras on it; I also
noticed it has a Trico auxillary vacuuum pump for the wipers.

I knew it wouldn't be too long before you were cruisin' around in your
very own bullet nose. :)
And I'm givin' you fair warnin', you have more than enough time to get
the '38 ready for JAX, it better be there!

Yes, I did get the wonderful job of washing it. It looks WAY better
now.

I don't really have a price in mind.  This unit I think will only be
suitable for a rod project as it has been sitting for a few million
years.  Sheet metal is ok but has a lot of surface rust.  Chrome is
so-so. Drive train and interior is complete.  I think that the radio
might even be there.

A few years ago, we had a '50 four door that was in very rough shape
sitting on a flatbed.  Some rodder came buy and paid $800 (silly money)
for it when I thought that only had scrap value.  There's just something
about bullet nose Studebakers that the rodder crowd loves.

Probably one good car could result from both of our "babies."  But, I
think that you're to far and I know that I am.  I groan 'n moan
everytime I have to drive a measly fifteen miles to go into Austin...
