Paid for E-bay item using PayPal. I've never received the item and no reply
to my E-mails by the seller or to the PayPay dispute. The question is what
is the best way to try and get my money back? 1) file a PayPal claim and
lose $25 in fees 2) Dispute the charge on my credit card
3) other? Thanks in advance for any advise.

Dispute it with your credit card company. Last time I had to do something
like this I waited past the 30 day grace period with PayPal and was SOL. My
credit card refunded the transaction and about three months later the guy
sent me my money back.

The fee that PayPal charges to dispute a transaction... their standard
customer service fee.

Lee - I recently disputed a PayPal transaction. They helped resolve
(took about
two weeks) and there was no fee. Money was returned to my PayPal
account.
Is this a new fee? Have you been told it would cost that much?

That was what they charged about a year or so ago, I haven't had to dispute
anything since.

Credit card company won't stand in the middle as you used a third party
(PayPal). They'll tell you to take it up with them. Collect all your
correspondence, submit it to PayPal and place the payment into dispute.
They do their investigation and will credit your CC with everything
except the $25 Fee.
I just went throught this and have to say, PayPal impressed me. It
sucked to lose the $25, but it was better than losing all of it.
Good luck!

One call to American Express is all it took for me... PayPal said I was SOL
because it was past the 30 day transaction date.

I see my confusion, my auctions and many others feature "Free Paypal
buyer protection", some do not. i.e. one of mine

They still have the $25 charge and only promise to "try" and get my money
back. I assume no charge if not successfull. The USPS had electronic
notification to expect a package for shipment but has no record of receiving
it. No answer to E-mails and the guy isn't current selling anything else,
kind of dropped out of sight.

I've tried to get refunds from each one for item not delivered or
totally wrong item bid on. The CC company was much easier and quicker
to deal with than Paypal. Based on my experience with both, I would
much rather just use my CC.
