I have been searching for an R2 Hawk engine since I purchased my Black 1964
powershift Hawk last June. I have been emailing and talking to Nemish Solanki
for 4 months about the possibility of building my engine for me. He had
phoned me several months ago regarding a R2 set up he was selling for an
Avanti that he had just finished building which I passed on since I required
and wanted a Hawk set up. He called me a couple of weeks ago about planning
to build a Hawk R2 engine and asked me if I wanted the engine. It was quite
simple to me and found that I had to sh.t or get off the pot. I bought
Nemish's Cloverleaf engine Bored to .060 over, ISKY cam with .466 lift, R1
heads, with R3 valves and springs. Engine is built with a NOS R2 oil pan and
windage tray and NOS R2 Dampner and side breather tube. etc etc.
Well I suppose one set of problems leads to another. I now find myself having
a logistical nightmare transporting the engine from Atlanta back to to my
home just outside of Toronto, Ontario. Has any of the NG any experience
shipping complete engines around the country? Are there transport companies
that would load and unload a crated engine? Importing the engine is a whole
other topic that I have to look into this week.
I have talked to Nemish and we are considering the possibility of installing
the engine in Atlanta in late June after I finish a couple of courses. I am
considering trailering my Hawk (engine-less) to Atlanta behind my truck and
installing the engine there (requires two people to drive back) or driving
the Hawk to Atlanta and shipping the old torn down engine back to TO
(requires me). The savings on the transport, import duty and 15% import taxes
on the engine costs would defiantly pay for my trip. On the other hand the
Road trip could be a really good time.
Any knowledge would be helpful. Thanks
Allen

I have a Nemish R2 installed in my R2 GT (Nesmish's old car) It has
the R3 valves and his head work and I can tell you'll love the engine.
Here's my Nemish engine:

Well you've been searching for a R2 motor for years.
You probably gave a pretty good penny for it.
You want it shipped from US to the Canada.
Why would you have to ask about crating it after all that,
and risk any damage to it?
Silly person, just have it crated.
I would ask your carrier of choice about insurance too.
And if they would pay if it is damaged in either country.

Completed engines are regularly shipped around the US, and I would
imagine to most any country. Needless to say you would need it crated
and on a pallet. The shipper would need a fork lift for loading, and of
course you would need a fork lift at the consignee end for unloading.
I would think you could rent a fork lift and operator locally. In the
case of Canada there are probably the usually customs forms. Both
Paxton and SASCO shipped completed engines all the time (I got a couple
from them myself), but they had the shipping facilities for that. The
shipping company can unload the engine at their warehouse, and then load
it onto a pickup for you. You could then use the hoist in your shop to
unload your pickup.
Become friends with your nearest warehouse.............

Become a friend of the local car dealerships or hot rod shops that get crate
motors delivered.Shouldnt be any problem getting a ready made engine crate.
