Took the Avanti out for a short ride today.  Noticed a rough idle and then a
hard brake pedal on a couple of stops.  Brake booster.  I'm always amazed
how I can park a perfectly running car and then start it up a week later and
there's a problem.  I've noticed a similar problem with pants I have in the
closet.  They hang in there for awhile and when I go to put them on the
waist has shrunk!!!

I've noticed that problem too.  I had a perfectly good power steering
pump on the shelf, I go to use it and it leaks like a sieve.  And the
pants hangin' in my closet, it must be that the air in there doesn't
get changed enough, because whenever they spend a lot of time in there
they come out way too small.
But are you sure that your just not loosing the vacuum with an idle
that is just a little slower and a little rougher?  It happens to me
on occasion.

Bad Closet Air is a universal problem that never gets addressed.  The EPA
should leave the auto community alone and work on something important!

I was able to isolate the booster as the problem.  I have gained a sixth
sense for vacuum leaks.  When I had my gas station in the early 70's a lot
of cars would not pass hydrocarbon emissions because of vacuum leaks.  I use
to pride myself on finding the simple, inexpensive problem.  I lost my shirt
in the gas station business.  Couldn't bring myself to take advantage of the
situation.
