A friend is building a Studebaker V-8 powered street rod. He recently
acquired a a partial-flow V-8 with a DG250-M transmission. The engine
was reported to be a 232 but it has the fuel pump mounted on the side
of the block. The serial number is PI6653. I'm guessing it's a 259
from 1959 but I don't know for sure. Can anyone confirm this?

Bob,
It looks like what your friend has is a 1955 259.
Studebaker used "I" for 1.

Thanks Jeff! That makes more sense with the DG250. He described the
transmission as a Borg-Warner and I was thinking it would be a
Flightomatic but when I got a look at it I saw it was a DG250.

That would be a late engine as the one in my '55 is only four digits.
The "P" and DG250 were exclusive to 259's in 1955. I don't know if I
would recommend the tranny for a street rod though...

I don't got no stinkin' street rod. ;-) And I'd LOVE to have the
valve body from a DG250.

I don't think that the valve body from a 250 will fit anything but a 250...

I know there are other changes in the trans, too, but I did exactly
that on a '53 Commander. Worked fine. Of course, I didn't hot rod
it. So.....if ya got one....;-)
