Need Rims

Does anyone have any Avanti Disc brake rims or a good substitute so my disc
brake conversion will be finished. We thought we had the correct rims but
wound up using spacers to do local driving. The Turner kit went on in less
than three hours. I was amazedhow much weight came off the front end. I have
a long list of rims that will work, but where  I live there are no "local"
suppliers, and my local FLAPS dealers give me strange stares and responses.

Thanks
Bill

Bill,

You should be able to get the rims through your local tire store.  The
steel rims that I used were the ones for the Ford Ranger.  These were
NWRA# 40273, Hayes# 82552.

I have the Ford Ranger wheels on my 63 Lark and they appear to work fine.
Mine arethe 15 x 6 with the slots . I think they are going to look really
good when I get the finish coat of paint on them. Check a local Pick a Part,
or Pull a Part.

I had better luck in dealing with trailer parts and repair places in finding
someone who knew what I was talking about and would order the new rims. They
worked great by the way.

Bill,

Where are you located?  I have 4 Avanti rims from my 64 R2.  I have
late 80's Ford rims on my Avanti.  They are 6 " wide instead of
Studebaker 5 " Avanti rims.

I Iike them as the extra 1 " , ie: wider track " look better and
improve the handling some what.  I can not find the Ford rims anymore
locally but they are avilable from a Vender in Turning Wheels.

  Bill,
Those rims, X40273 have been discontinued by Hayes/Lemmerz, the
original manufacturer.  That is why Bob Helm        no longer has an
add in TW for them.  Your best
bet is your local Pull-A-Part or wrecking yard.  The Chrysler
wheels, 15X6", will work also, but their offset is different than the
Ford wheel, more offset to the outside .  It appears as a "deeper"
dish wheel than the Ford, but will still work.
  I hope this helps.

I have a pair of 15x6 I think they are the Ford wheels discussed
above, they have BFG T/As on there that hold air but should be
replaced due to age.  Only have two though.  Would be glad to trade
for a pair of original wheels.  (somehow lost some of the wheels for
my '55 coupe, only have three)  Can bring to Reedsville.

Gene - Bill is in Westchester County.
Bill - Gene is in Dutchess County (unless he relocated already).
You only have Putnam County between the two of you.  Perhaps you could
make a deal and meet half way.  I think that the rims can be UPS'd
with just a tag.
I have one spare Studebaker disc brake rim/wheel, so Gene's set sounds
better.

Just go to a local tire/wheel shop to get some wheel boxes.
They have loads of wheel boxes that they throw out every week.
