My Dad used a strange looking oil filter on his '56 Power Hawk. The outside
material looked like a sock, like ribbed cotton. Does anyone know anything
about them? Were they effective? Who made them?
BTW, Dad put 176,000 on that car. He was a salesman on the road. He traded
it on a 1959 Mercedes diesel. His company gave him a mileage allowance and
he made money on the diesel at 37mpg.

I remember seeing some filters like that on a 47 M-series pickup my brother
in law had when I was around 12 years old. He removed it and couldn;t find
one so he put a roll of toilet tissue in it's place. We put a bunch of miles
on that old truck that summer in between working on it.
