I have acquired a '59 Lark V8 engine that has 537555 or ??? 537565 heads
(hard to tell what the fifth digit is) that have broken exhaust
manifold studs.

Can I substitute some 1567570 heads (off of a '63 Cruiser)?

I'm interested in maintaining the highest possible compression ratio.

TIA

555's are 8:1 comp / 570's are 8.25:1   Both are 54.5 cc.
Should work fine!

One thing to keep in mind is that rocker assemblies and pushrods
should be kept together.  I think there was a change somwhere between
those years.

I don't have any options as regards pushrods/rocker assemblies as I have
the heads only.  I thought that change occured around 1961 or '62.  I
will have to use the set up off of the '59 engine.

BTW, I do need a set of "short" (early) pushrods for another project.

Can anyone confirm?

BTW, I need a new or good used exhast valve.  Any out there?

TIA

JT.

Great!  It looks like I might gain a hairline of increased compression
out of the switch.

Thanks!

I don't think so... if the cc volume of the head is the same, then the
pistons or the crank throw had to provide the extra compression.
