Kind of a long story..
I listed some Mopar trim and listied it incorrectly...wrong
applications... Didn't get any bids until the auction was almost
over, and one of the bidders asked me to measure the pieces. Upon
measuring, found out they would not fit what I advertised them for. I
have never cancelled and auction before, so first tried by myself and
since it was late and there were bids, ebay wouldn't let me. Called
their "help' line...what a mistake! Foreign woman who could hardly
speak english and reading from a "script". She couldn't even get it
through her numbskull that she was not helping at all, she kept saying
that she had answered my questions. FInally she told me to email the
bidders, but that I could NOT cancel the auction. I emailed the
bidders and they were cool, but then a snipe bid came in and bought
the part. I think that I could have cancelled the bids and THEN ended
the auction, but she didn't tell me that and it was too late. The
MORON winner of the parts hit the paypal pay without even reading the
shipping info; the parts are long and would be oversize for USPS and I
had a written disclaimer in the auction saying to disregard ebay's
shipping calcualtor and I would figure shipping the best way after the
auction ended. I offered free delivery to the Moultrie Ga. swap meet
in Feb. Well, I email the clown who won and no response. Three
emails, no resonse. Finally just plain said phoey and refunded his
paypal. THAT got his brain dead attention and he emailed a poor
question about the trim. After my resonse he gave me a neutral
feedback but it was way negative... He also sent a couple emails
saying he had not gotten his refund. Spent an hour on the phone to
Paypal and they said QUOTE...the guy must be drunk or trying to cheat
you as he has gotten his refund.... He kept insisting he had not been
refunded his $$. My 'ol lady saw where paypal showed that they kept a
small fee (two bucks) which they were NOT supposed to do so she gave
him an additional two something. Paypal they said that he was over
refunded but he kept insisting he was not refunded his $$. He accused
me of not selling the stuff because the price was too low. It is now
relisted CORRECTLY and there for the idiot to see..but he can't bid on
it..<G>

Oddly enough I've had two bad ebay buys recently whereas up until
recently I'd been buying for years and only got ripped off once before.
One seller did refund my money (was a fairly expensive vacuum
cleaner that tried to electrocute me when I used the power head) the
other has stopped responding to my emails (that wasn't a big ticket
item, but impossible to find - replacement remote for my old Sony big
screen, the menu scroll buttons don't work. Honestly I'd keep it anyway
as I may be able to fix it if I ever figure out how to get the darn
thing apart, and it's the only one I've seen for sale, ever.)

I recon I shouldn't be quite so pissed, as I haven't really had a
shmuck buyer until now. Sooner or later you will run into somone that
you can't please no matter what or has some kind of psychological
problems. Just that ebay's policies lately really suck and their
"help" is rediculous. I did fill out their survey about using their
phone help...like somone will read it?

Have been eBaying for years - as a Seller only - and had very good luck
on car parts......still some very nice Studepeeps out there with
accurate descriptions and fair minimum prices.
Got ripped on a couple big-ticket electronic items (non-delivery) in
the early days and eBay was of no help. And once won an antique
VIctrola that was the same model as that illustrated in the listing, but
was simply useless junk. The listing photo had been harvested from
another auction.....eBay more or less said "well, what did you expect?".
But glad to say that in 40 years, I've only been ripped-off once by a
Studebaker vendor.......and a lot (hobbyists & pros alike) have gone out
of their way to help.....a great bunch.

True dat... I'm more of a buyer than a seller, but on Studebaker parts I
have ALWAYS got at least what I expected to get for my $$ both on and
off eBay. All of my negative buying experiences have been "outside the
family" and only one of those was a car part. Seems that our little
corner of the world has a better class of seller than average, which is
definitely a Good Thing (tm)

You guys haven't lived. I was screwed out of $8000 by a Canadian in
Alberta. I don't know how he got the good feedback because subsequent to
the experience I talked to 2 other guys who had been badly burned. The ad
for the '63 Coupe de Ville was totally misleading and full of untruths, the
photos had all been touched up, and the lies were reinforced by email
communication with him before I bought it.
Canada has some very strong (albeit ineffective) laws regarding internet
fraud. I didn't know how ineffective until I had spent another $2500 with
an attorney up there who in effect did nothing. The seller is truley a very
fortunate fellow. Had he lived a reasonable driving distance from me, he
would have had a live experience with a baseball bat............... and I
mean that sincerely.
I recently bought a 560SL on Ebay. In email conversations with him I
mentioned the fact that I had located him on mapquest, and since he was only
2 hours away, I would happily visit him if he gave me a screwing.
Apparently he took me seriously because the car turned out to be really
nice. Oh, I also bought a '55 President State Coupe with only 62K on the
clock on Ebay. I think the trick is to correspond thru Ebay prior to
purchase, get their home address, and let them know that you won't take a
f..king lightly!!!

My lousy experience was over a stupid fifty buck part. Ebay's rules
and a buyer who makes sellers miserable for a living... If he hadn't
have sniped the auction I would have checked his feedback and seen all
the crap.. He got an IMMEDIATE refund and there was NEVER a
delivery. Ebay pulled my new corrected listing (after three days)
because the shipping figure they FORCED me to plug in was too high and
they thought I was trying to cheat them on final value fees. There
was a LARGE disclaimer in the auction about the shipping as it would
be an oversize package that would not fit in their stupid shipping
calcualtor. I recon the Pakistanis or Indians reading the auctions
for ebay are only trained to look a the the numbers and not read the
entire auction. I am done with them. Back to the old ways until a
better site comes out. It was fun while it lasted and I'll probably
get more work done as I'll be spending less time at the computer...and
I've sold almost all the good stuff I want to sell anyway. Swap
meets, the Stude swap page, etc. will be getting my attention instead
of ebay. Really sucks that in these tough econonomic times ebay has
become just another company that is out scourcing and kicking out the
little sellers that made them what they are. I know there are those
who say that ebay is just doing what it has to do, but I don't believe
that. Their stock and earnings are falling...CEO Donohoe says tough
times are to blame...but Amazon is still going up! Methinks the ebay
CEO knows his time is limited (actually working towards his firing)
and could care less about anything other than his big 'ol package when
they boot him. The US way of paying huge packages to get rid of a bad
exec is astounding; if the clown is no good a boot in the a.s on the
way out the door is all he/she should get.

That I can't believe, I've been screwed out of more money by Amazon
than I have by eBay. I used to think that Amazon was the greatest
thing since sliced bread, but the first time i had a problem, their
customer service people basically said "no, we didn't screw up, you
did, too bad." After sending over $100 worth of stuff to an address
at which I hadn't lived in three years... and I'd ordered stuff from
Amazon since... they had the gall to tell me that I had to contact
USPS to reroute my packages myself and that that was pretty much
that. Of course there's someone living there now so my packages
didn't get returned...
