Multi Fuel Pump Theory

Hey guys,
Does anybody see anything wrong (like, oh my God, don't do it!) with
hooking an electric fuel pump up in line with the mechanical pump.  My
theory being that by doing so would pressurize the fuel line through
the entire engine compartment and thereby greatly lessen the
possibility of vapor lock during the hottest days of summer as well as
help furnish a stronger fuel flow to the carb.  Fuel line from tank
and fuel filter to electric pump; electric pump output to mechanical
pump inlet and mechanical pump outlet on to the carb.  Any thoughts or
personal experiences?  (This is on a Stude V8)

Thanks,

I believe the electric fuel pump may overcome the diaphram in the
mechanical pump and pump the crankcase full of gas.

I had a electric pump on my T-cab and never experienced a problem.
Eventually there was a diaphragm leak, but it just squirted on the
ground and I rerouted around it.

If the vehicle is a daily driver, just ditch the mechanical pump. Not
one of my daily drivers is so equipped any longer.

Yeah but Grump, he was asking about using both at the same time!

I had both for about eight years...

Well Thanks for the input guys.  What I did was I ran the electric
thru a switch under the dashboard.  The mechanical pump draws gas past
the impeller wheel of the electric, and when I want to turn the
electric on to operate as a dual (like on super hot days) I just flip
up the switch and on it goes (wire thru the ignition switch of
course).  We'll see how it goes!

Just bear in mind that the best place to put an electric pump is as
close as possible to the tank.

I have a similar set up for the Power Hawk to avoid long cranking after
lengthy storage.
