i am amazed to see the mechanica ignorance on the other forum.
People can't even fix a 2 barrel carb.
They can't fix brakes.
They can't check a circuit
Can't set a choke
Don't know what dwell is
Don't know anything
Then they bitch when they have to hire someone

I had a garage near me, would give ANYTHING at one time for a
mechanic that knew how to assemble an engine , put the distributor in
and set the timing.. NO new mechanics had a clue.

Carburetors?? ROFL

I took a Quadrajet and stuck it on a Ford once, rejetted it and got
almost 20mpg, in a POS Ford that would NEVER get over 12.

Can't.......or don't want to take the initiative to try. Can't tell
you how many times I had to redo something over again the first time a
'new' task was tackled. But that's how I learn, by doing (over and
over and over <G>).

The shop manuals lay out the steps pretty well......for example, carb
adjustments are step-by-step with pictures and diagrams. Read and
follow along.

The sad thing is a lot of shops don't have experience with 40 to 60
year old cars anymore, so someone hires out the work and it may still
not be done right.

That's why joining a club AND LOCAL CHAPTER is so important.

I had a head start. My uncle had a 1946 Ford which had a valvehead
break off and punch a hole in head and pistion.
He lived it the country and loaned me his tools to work on it. I did
get it running, but not for long, as the head came off
another valve on the other bank and ruined the piston head on the that
side.
School was starting and no one could figure out how this happened, so
the junkman towed it away and gave me about as much as the head and
piston had cost - $10. Great summer.
It's a half-century later and no one has come up with an answer yet!

So.. What classes did you take at school?
Obviously not metallurgy or mechanical diagnostics' <lol>
50 years and no answer....
(And people get PO'd when their answer on a forum isn't responded to 5
minutes later <g>)

No answwer:

As there is no crossover between the two bankss, nothing could pass
theough. There is some connection via the valley where the cam shaft
form the center of the floor, aaand if a large chunk of something got
caught ther between the cam profile and valce stem end and was think
enought so the the valve head was push hard against the cylinder head,
the valvehead might be popped off. The floating piece would nthen have
to floatb over the a valve for the other side and repeat the trick.
This is possible, but highly unlilkely. In addition, I woyld probably
have spotted it at sometime when I was working in the area.

Don't seem right!

Stil confused.

What did I take in school? Space and time!

It never ends!
Now there's a guy with a 'tired' R1 Avanti that wants a 'used running'
R2 engine on the cheap so he can put it in to increase the value of
his Avanti.

So goes the slide down the banister into the abyss.

One has to wonder on how some survive the rigors of everyday life...
