This one just passed my limit - looks like the $11K offer would have
been a good one if I'd wanted it $11K worth.

That's just nuts. It's a nice enough car, but not that correct for 11K.

I've been thinking about it, but the $1,440 the transporter needs to get it
here in Minne-snow-tah will undoubtedly make it cost-prohibitive for me.

For something as solid as this one, I wouldn't let the shipping cost be
the deal breaker. Just how many Wagonaires do you think survived ? Not
many I'm sure. Non woody station wagons have never been a big item for
collectors.

I'm definitely with ya on this one James. I'd never do it any other way. The
economics, time factors, finish, work expended, etc. all point to starting
with one that's as solid as possible. You can lead them to that refreshing
water but........<G>

James and Sonny are so right - Geez, didn't we just HAVE this discussion?
What's $1400 shipping vs. hours of cutting, patching and feathering - or
worse yet, paying some shop to do it when they find the time???  And this 66
has ALL the bodywork (little that it was) done already???  Reshoot the tired
paint (and I really am pissed that the paint went to hell on it so fast!),
finish assembly (upholstery'd done already!) and drive.

I didn't add this but I should have. I am POSITIVE that car can be shipped
for less than $1,400.00, probably about half that number, ya just have to do
some homework. Also, for those who don't want to have to pay that shipping,
I happen to have a '64 wagon right here on the east coast that I'll be happy
to sell for that shipping price. <G>

Also, shipping a non-running car costs more than shipping a running car.  $900
might be about correct for a runner from CA to WI, but $1400 might also be
correct for a non-runner.

Most I every got quoted for a non-running car was $150 over the running car
price. Most of the time it has only been $100 over the running car price.

I have only shipped running cars and trucks (many of them).  Since I figured
that the shipment in question should be about $900, I ASSumed that the
difference up to the $1400 mentioned must be due to a non-running vehicle.
$100-$150 difference for a vehicle that the shipper can't just drive on and off
the truck seems like a good deal.

Here is another possibilty, If the engine and interior among other things
are not inside of the car but is being shipped with the car then there would
be an extra cost over the $100 to $150. I have seen this on my contracts.
However if the engine and everything else is placed into the car and scured
then there is no extra charges.

My shipper even allowed 100 pounds of "extras" inside the car. In other
words, they wouldn't like it if it was crammed full of extra parts, but
loose stuff for the car was ok. The one I had shipped from CA had a bunch of
extras Pat had put inside and in the trunk, no problem. From just below LA,
CA to my front door in Hamburg, NY was $800.00, (my car ran, $100.00 more if
not), and he said it would have been cheaper if I could have waited. That's
the secret too, if it MUST be there overnite, you pay. Keep lookin'....<G>

They just winch 'em right up Gary. My brother Leo and I just went to get one
in MI a couple of months ago and we met the transporter at a rest area. The
guy let it down off the truck and even winched it onto my brothers trailer,
all in about 30 minutes. The old flathead Furd hadn't run in years but it
was easy as pie.

Well, that may be true for some shipping companies, but mine only charged
$100.00 more. If they can get away with charging $500.00, yep, five HUNDRED
dollars more because it's not running, and everybody seems to agree with
that price, then I know what my next business is gonna be. I gotta start a
coast to coast Studebaker transport service. <G>

I can't understand for the life of me why it's so hard to shop around. Hell,

Yes, it was your guy, JP. While I wouldn't characterize a destination that's
a mile off of two major Interstates in the Twin Cities as being "in the
boonies" maybe your guy charges more cuz he's afraid we'll make him eat

Sonny, I have no idea where that came from. KMA has shipped many a
NG'ers car at a fair price and does discount from his regular rates for
the business we send him. He may not always be the cheapest depending on
various factors, but he's treated us right.

Just my experience with him JP. He was $450.00 dollars higher than I got it
shipped for and around $150.00 to $200.00 more than the other apx. 10 bids I
got. It honestly doesn't matter to me who does the shipping, but ya gotta go
with the best deal and I think his price can be beat easily without thinking
that you're getting a deal. Not one thing personal about it, just pure
economics. <G>

Might be a regional thing, I've never seen him high on a west coast to
east coast run. Shipping should always be shopped around, you might find
a hauler with a empty slot that'll cut you a deal. I just wanted to make
it clear that he tries his best to give us a deal, although he may not
always be able to.

The Winnemucca 48 Champion came NV to PA for a grand, but it was about 6
weeks and a LOT of phone calls to get it going.  I wasn't too impressed.
I asked for the Studebaker discount, but it wasn't too impressive a cut in
