The transmission in the truck is a 4-speed T98 and pretty toasted. We'd like to change
this over to a new process 5 speed - we have the bell housing, and we've been told that an
1980 or older Chevy 5 speed will work, but the input shaft has to be increased from 5/8 to
3/4 with a bushing - is this correct or are there other adjustments that would work?
Also need to know the gear ratios for a 5 speed.
Failing that, does anyone have a Studebaker NP5 speed for sale??
And if that doesn't work, what would be a good automatic truck transmission to bolt to a
259 or 289? Is there an adapter plate available? What bell housing is needed?

With some help, I made the change 2 years ago to the NP5od and am very
happy with the swap. You are not the only member looking for the NP5od
but they are still out there in limited numbers. I had the gear
ratio's for my NP5od however they are lost in cyberspace on my old
computer. I believe that 5th was a .82 that is good for a truck.
Meyers and Steeltech both sell adapters to put a GM auto behind a
Stude V8. Someone with more knowledge than I, hop in here and help
them make a good choice to keep this Champ on the road.
