This am I came down to read my e-mail, a daily ritual. There was a letter from
a company who supplies us product for another business.
It contained a tracking number of shipment coming to US from overseas, and the
second part was an invitation for Ellen & I to go Pakistan all expenses paid by
the company, airfare, hotel etc, all picked up by our supplier.
The both of us are flying the mail to Kansas, but becasue the new Hospital
schedules were just posted we could not take them up on the offer.
But the offer itself was so spectaclular, that my mind is still whirling.
I believe this came about because we had been waiting for a shipment and we
could not understand why it did not show. We got a letter explaing that it was
the start of Ramadan.
I did some research about the Hoiliday and found out how important it was, and
I apologized for not being sensitive to their Holiday and the way they conduct
business.
It is an interesting holiday, and takes real devotaion to partake, it makes the
two days of the Jewish High Holidays look like a cake walk. For one month those
who follow the religious doctrines are not allowed to eat, drink, smoke or have
any romantic encounters during daylight hours. There are two meals, and the
wife takes great care to prepare it in a very special way, getting up in the
wee hours of the night so the family can eat their morning meal before the sun
comes up. And the evening meal can only be eaten when the sun is fully set.
I still can't get over the scope of the invitation.

middle eastern people have been innkeepers since the beginning of time, when
they started to migrate to the U.S. they wanted to start a chain of hotels.
they call their vacations "holidays" and the name "Holiday Inn" was favored but
all ready in use, so they used their most holy holiday's name Ramada(n) and
that's the start of the Ramada Inn.
