Took 'Sheba for a little 70 mile spin today... going nowhere in particular,
just cruisin'.

I made a stop in Perkins, and heard this little voice from some distance
away yell, "Nice Studebaker!"

I looked around, and the only human I could see was about a 9 year old boy
on a bike.  I yelled back, "How did you know it was a Studebaker?"
"Studebakers are the BEST!" He hollered back.

Having always had a soft spot in my heart for a sick child, I decided to
stay put for a minute, to see if he would come over.  He did.  He admired
the car with big eyes, shaking his head, saying two or three times, "Man, I
love those cars."

"So, I sez, "How do you know about Studebakers?"  "I'm a classic car nut,"
he replies.

I shook his hand, and patted him on the back, and told him guys like me were
getting worried about where the kids like him are.  He allowed as how he
would rather read about, work on, and dream about old cars than he would sit
around all day playing video games.  "Geeze," I thought, "That sounds like
my speech."  I'd rather spend my time building a car on week-ends than
sitting in some stadium watching someone else play a game.  We agreed that
we will have something to show for our efforts, and parted ways.

We had a nice visit, and I left feeling just a little better about the
future of the hobby.  I'll be tracking down his parents to get permission to
take him for a ride, or maybe a Stude meet.

I pulled into the restaurant parking lot with the GT to pick up my daughter
who was working.  Three boys were out in the lot playing with a kickball.
They saw the Hawk and ran over.  One of them came up to side and said,
"Wow, that car is c-o-o-l.  It's even cooler than my Dad's 57 Chevy!"
Now, that made me feel r-e-a-l good.
