Hello! I  do not read these  topics frequeny  so perhaps  you are aware of
this  discussion already. However: My friend who is  more into Kustoms
and  HotRods  informed  me  about a Studebaker related discussion on the
rodders discussion /chat ( wwww.jalopyjournal.com) There these guys   talk
about a   large  NOS Studebaker part lot ( a couple of truck loads?)   for
sale in Wisconsin. Maybe  worthwile to  check if you are  in that  area
and interested. I will try  to  copy  the link  here, but  you  can  get
there  bu  clicking into www.jalopyjournal.com.  then  go to H.A.M.B
-section (load it)   and  then use the  search machine  with  keywords
"1967 NOS Studebaker parts" .  That  should  get you there.

Those of us living in Wisconsin know exactly who has these parts and
where they are located.  This is part of a large estate, originally
held by the deceased daughter, of a former Studebaker dealer.  Local
club members have seen the parts over the past few decades, but they
have now deteriorated badly, due to horrible storage conditions.

Due to legal reasons, it could take years for the surviving grand
daughters to get to a point of moving on the estate contents.

I was at the funeral and I know who is spreading premature stories.
It is a boy friend of one of the grand daughters.  He took my name
too, as he likes to collect names and tell stories.

While these parts really do exist, the overall condition and quirky
politics have caused this stuff to sit as long as it has (since 1967).
It is not the treasure trove that the stories going around dictate.

The woman that owned them was a local S.D.C. member for many years,
and so is the undertaker and that did her funeral.  We are all on the
list.

Someone has e-mailed me several times asking the value, here's one :

"Hello, I have been made aware of a lot of parts.
It seems that a contact, that I have, acquired an entire parts
department full of parts, from a dealership, that closed, and has been
storing them since 1969. I at this time do not know the extensiveness of
these parts, but it is very large. Although I am fluent in the
automotive industry, these parts I am not completely sure about meaning
Studebaker parts. My question is what kind of parts are the people with
these cars looking for? Any info that you could give at this time would
be great.
Thanks
xxxx "

scrap iron is at $0.01 per 100 lbs. today.
Lee - 28 Oct 2004 23:31 GMT
Dang Calvin, you need to haul your scrap iron up here!  I just took in
a load to the recycler and it brought .0475/pound!  Actually, $95 a
ton.

LOL, I took right at 12,000 pounds across the scales a week ago.  Took
three trips but it was worth it!

Sorry  to  hear   how  the  story  goes. I still  thought   that it is
worthwhile to mention. A  similar " treasure  story"   was  told  to me
by  an older  man --  here  in  Finland. About  an  old  abandonded
"hospital"  with one  big  room  filled  with old NOS  Studebaker parts
.. in the  midlle  of  noweher  here in  Finland. For  10 years  I
thought  that the man  made  up  the  story. Then it  started  to  bother
me . I  was  able  to  locate  the place  and the  owners.  There were some
parts  still  -- like  one  compete 289 crate  engine in a wooden  box ..
and  my  friend went there  just a week  before  me  and  he  got a pair
of  NOS 53 outer grilles that I had  been  chasing ... and  some  other
hard  to find  parts  too.  I  bought  some  of the  last  parts still
there from the owners  for  very  little  money. But  someone  had  broken
in  and  taken  majority of the  parts  during the  past  few  years. What
I learned:  better  to  check  the  rumours... and  belive the odd  old
man -- if  he  has  been driving  a Studebaker  in the past!

All too true!  I think most of us have missed good deals because we didn't
believe or were slow to check.  About 15 years ago I missed a 38,000 mile
Golden Hawk WITH factory air, virtually rust-free, because I had been told
it was a '56 (wasn't interested then).  I later found it on a used car lot
in the town 20 miles from me.  The old lady owner had sold it to him for
$2500.

Word I got is that it is all junk. Mostly deteriorated filters and
belts. I'd like to know if they saved the paper work. One of my cars
came from there.
