I was pulling the spark plugs on y Y2K Outback and noticed that there
was a little oil on the ignition wire and the spark plug socket coming
out of the tube. It wasn't very much, just enough to put a thin coat
of oil on. Is this normal of a boxer engine?
thanks

Normal for most engines. I changed the
plugs at 84k and there was a little oil
on the plug and wire.

That's NOT normal IF the spark plug tubes go thru the valve covers. I
just posted that problem and got a reply on the USMB forum:

If the tubes go thru the valve covers, there are seals that have to be
replaced inside the valve covers.

Noticed the same things a few weeks back, asked on a cub's board and
was told I needed to change the valve cover plug gaskets (basically,
o-rings...).
Not really worrying about it for now...
