I have a 2001 LL Bean Outback and I want to put in my Alpine in-dash
CD/Receiver. Does this need a DIN Pocket for the installation or not?
What would be needed to install this Alpine in my Outback dash?
Also, where could I get the DIN pockets to take up the space of the
double-DIN stock head unit and the in-dash 6 disc changer I have?
(Alpine 12 disc changer to go in behind rear seat...)

You should be able to get that pocket at the parts counter of your local
Subie dealer. Believe it or not, the parts prices are pretty reasonable, at
least at my dealer. As for the actual installation, I'm not too sure about
the 2001, but my '95 model was the easiest stereo installation I ever did,
it pretty much screwed in place and all I needed was a wire harness adapter.

Hi Jon!

Easily done. Crutchfield will sell you everything you need, or find an
OEM pocket from someone who has put a 6 disk changer (double-DIN) into
a Forester or the like. You might ask your dealer, as this is a common
dealer-installed upgrade, and they _probably_ just toss the unused
pockets.
