The past week or so, I got this strange odor in my 1998 Subaru Legacy. It is
a chemical like odor...almost smells like bondo. Seems to be coming from the
front. I can smell it from the outside also, and through the vents. Could
this be a small exhaust leak somewhere? Also, I have not had a chance to
check the car when it is completely dry as it has rain like crazy here in
Maine almost non-stop the past 10 days or so. Once it drys out, I plan to
check underneath. Anyways, it really isn't like a carbon dioxide odor, but
more like
a bondo smell....the stuff used to patch cars. That is what it reminds me
of. Any comments appreciated.

Sometimes the CV boots split and grease splatters onto the exhaust and
can stink. Ot you could've run over some plastic or something. You
didn't report a sweet, roasted marshmallow smell so likely it is not
coolant.
