I just have to ask, does anyone else find the new subaru front-ends
absolutely hideous?  The B9 and Impreza's are the only ones to have
this look so far.  What are they thinking with the large triangle-like
grill in the center?  We just bought a new car and didn't even consider
Subaru because of this.  Hopefully this new look goes the way of the
Impreza with the round headlights.

I presume when the new car won't get you through 6 inches of snow over
ice in DC or some other backwater you will be able to admire that grill.

The grille is supposed to reflect subaru's heritage in aviation.  The
grille is supposed to look like a coupe of wings (like a plane flying
toward you.  I have an 06 wrx and think they're the most agressive
looking one's yet. Considering this is the first year of the 2.5l in
the standard WRX, the bigger brakes, available leather interior and
electronic valve timing control, this may be the best WRX ever.

Yeah, I don't shop for grills when I car shop.

Oh, don't forget the extra bricks added to the roof and the wheels
of the STI Limited arriving this fall. Goes well with the ugly nose.
I'm soooo glad I got the MY2005 before the uglification took place.
I'd get EVO over STI if only for the fact that the nose does not look
so ugly. Anyhow, it's hard to please everyone.
But I did like the designs of the first frenchman better.

> You'll get used to it. Let's face it, Subarus have never been style icons.

Why get used to it when there is non uglified Evo? A4 never looked ugly
either.
Legacy looks quite good also. But Subaru always would fine some way to
make the Impreza
sheet metal ugly.

Hmm, didn't we have the same discussion during the bug eyey years?

When I was looking, the STi came with more options available, like the
6-CD deck, or, like cruise control, as standard. I like those because I
drive it a lot as our regular family car, etc. I don't know what you can
get the Evo with these days, mind, but I'm the sort of person who'd eye
STI Limiteds with interest: maybe things have changed, but I'd thought
of the Evo as being more for hardcore racers than people wanting more
all-round use from their car.

I think the only creature comfort feature available on RS is an air
conditioning. Which is all I need.

But let me put it this way: the $5k of a difference between RS and STI
buys a LOT of sound deadening materials, stereo equipment
and labor.
Cruise control is nice as a ticket avoidance crutch though.
Well, at least one less lever to rattle I guess.

> of the Evo as being more for hardcore racers than people wanting more

If that's what you want why don't you give Legacy spec B a try?
It's 200lbs heavier than STI but still lighter than the MazdaSpeed6.

Mazda truck is $7k cheaper though.

The Ki-43 Oscar, Ki-84 Frank and the Ki-115 kamikaze special all with
radial engines.

Fuji Heavy Industries was known as Nakajima Aviation then, after the
war the first Subaru was a light plane the Fuji FA200 Aero Subaru.

Leather interior?? Nice... hope that comes to Australia... too late for
me though... went out and got a Forester. Personally I don't mind the
new nose, but I think it would look strange on the Forester, Outback or
Liberty (Legacy). We don't have the B9 Tribeca here yet (later in the
year is what Subaru Australia are saying), but from what I've seen of
the B9, it doesn't look awful on that either.

Each to their own on this one...

Do you have a reliable source for the 80% figure? Or even 10%?

Are you that stupid to think Subarus are the only good foul weather
vehicles?  Any AWD or 4WD will be fine in the snow.  I will probably
avoid buying another Subaru until they go back to the 00-04 outback
style.  Dont get me started on that awful trbeca POS

Well, it seems that some AWD systems are just AWD on paper. There was a
video
by some swedish guy ages ago showing an Outback and some volvo
towing a trailer on a level muddy terrain and up an unpaved hill.
For some reason he kept getting the volvo stuck.

Again, this is a recent example of a car with a six digit price tag
useless off road:

Or maybe it's just that the Porsche did not bid high enough for the C&D

Speaking of minivans. Tribeca was the first one with the awful grill
and why did not Subaru add the sliding doors? I think the utility of it
with the hinged doors is greatly reduced for the people with kids. Or
maybe some kids are careful opening them without trashing M5 parked
nearby? If there are bmw owners retarded enough park next to a minivan.
Greg R - 25 Apr 2006 14:24 GMT
That's the first time I noticed how ugly Subaru has become (the
Tribecca).  Then while researching cars online I saw they also ruined
(in my opinion) the looks of the Impreza, the new look reminds me of
the old Dodge K cars.  Of course not everyone's tastes are the same,
but the absolute lack of Tribecca's I see on the road tells me I'm not
alone in thinking this is one of the worst looking cars.  Don't get me
wrong, Subaru makes great cars (I have an older Impreza myself and am
quite happy), I just think the new look is horrible.
Body Roll - 25 Apr 2006 16:54 GMT

Well, you should drive a new one. I don't think you'd want to trade in.
When I bought my OB Sport I was thinking: heck let them sort out WRX
further, put a detuned STI plant in and I'll sit it out and trade in a
3-4 years
down the road. Now that I drove OB Sport for a while and get a feeling
of the slightly numb steering and the brake feel far from stellar along
with the lackluster
NA engine response and tranny far from buttery smooth I think I'll pass
on the WRX trade in altogether. RX-8 might not be nearly as fast but at
least it should be way more pleasant to drive.

SI Drive senor?
Si si!

I think it is supposed to be more SUV-ish than Minivan-ish. In my
opinion, Subaru is too late and misguided to chase that market. Still, I
suspect the sliding doors will be coming soon enough. Personally, I'd
rather see the R1 or R2 over here. maybe with an all electric option too.

I dunno

The new '06 is actually pretty good looking (not like the jelly bean
shape of the previous generation).

Hey, what do you have against the round lights? I love my bug-eyed
Impreza...

Yeah... but I don't think many other people liked them... I didn't have
a problem with them either way... but as history has shown, they went
from slits, to bug-eyes, to what looks like an aggresive squint...

At least Imprezas and B9s front don't look like "Aston Martin's catfish
gulping water" front... Let me go get into my asbestos suit now after
that comment...

that will be added to the other 2007 Legacy products:

You do know that it is an Italian designer responsible for the flying
vagina nose right? (I he may be a pot smoker - I dunno).

Anyway, when I'm driving my '06 WRX wagon, I can't see it - nor do I
care. I don't think there has EVER been a Subaru made that would appeal
to me on looks alone. That's not what I shop for.

the B9 is one of the ugliest designs ever

reminds me of the days in the 70's when Subaru's were just butt-ugly

well... maybe not that bad

I think it's a lot like the front end on the new Audi's.  You either love it
or hate it.  Personally I don't like 'em, but when  you add a front license
plate it changes the look quite a bit.

For what it's worth I just got an email from the Subaru people saying
the 2007s will be out in July. Quote from a blog I cited above: "All
Legacy models for 2007 feature, as standard equipment, the Subaru
Advanced Frontal Air Bag System, front seat side impact air bags,
active front seat head restraints and side curtain air bags."
