When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the keyless
entry/security system comes on in panic mode. I believe there is a
switch under the dash that will cancel it when pressed with the key
on, you may not need the remote. There was a recent thread in here by
someone with the same problem, and I believe this was the resolution.
You can search the newsgroup for this post, I believe it was in the
past month or two.

Check the manual or www.cars101.com also. You MAY be able to rotate the
key from off to on and back several (3-5-?) times to satisfy the
security system. Failing all these suggestions - maybe a trip to the
dealer will be required.

This was a fix for at least 2 cars recently. Hope that helps...

On my car: Sit in the driver's seat and find the hood release. Take your
left hand, palm up fingers extended, and line up your forefinger with the
left side of the release. Slide your hand forward until the crease where
your finger attaches to your palm is directly under the forward side of the
release. Push your finger up and you should feel a button right there above
your fingertip, or very close.
Good luck.
