Cel code P0447 resolution

Hello:

Some time ago I posted about a stubborn CEL light code P0447. It has finally
been resolved and it was a corroded solder in the wiring in the rear wheel
well. Fixing this seems also to have solved a rough engine problem (though
it might be too soon to tell...)

P.S. I'd have posted to the original thread, but I'm having problems with
free newsgroup server letting me go that far back...

Anyway, after a long, expensive year with lots of problems, here's hoping
things change for the better with my Subie!

Was this wire associated with the electrics for the fuel pump?

Sorry, I don't know. I think it was somewhere around right rear wheel well.
I've seen some posts/info somewhere on the 'net that describes this issue
with Subies - but I can't find the links at the moment.

We have a P0446 code, which is similar to what you had. If I could
find a manual for this car, I'd be much more comfortable messing
around back there. But once I replace the knock sensor to fix the
P0325 code, we'll get on the 446.....

Hi:

Here is one of the posts I had found that describes the situation. The
service manager brought me a piece of wire coloured green with corrosion. He
said something as well about separating wires as part of the repair. The
engine has not exhibited any recurrance of roughness or stumbling since the
repair was completed a few days ago, so that is good!

By the way, the service manager suggested this wiring issue might be the
problem the first time I came in (the CEL had gone out on it's own, and they
couldn't really do much on that visit), sooo I got the impression that this
is not uncommon.

I live in Ontario, Canada, and there is plenty of salt on the roads in
winter...

Good info. I was looking at the cannister yesterday afternoon, but not
having a manual yet, was a little reluctant to pull it off. What a
terrible design, there is an electrical connector directly in the path
of water and crud thrown up by the right rear tire. Why would they put
uncovered electrical wires there??!!

Hi,
Wiring in the wheel well makes me to think ABS sensor.
AS - 31 Aug 2007 20:42 GMT
Code 0447 has to do with the electric circuit for the drain valve part
of evaporative system.  This valve closes the atm. pressure line to the
cannister for testing purposes.
