I have a manual on CD, that is supposed to be the Sube one, but all
the parts are drawings. Is that what the Sube one has? I'd like to
have something with actual pictures. Maybe it is just me, but the
drawings don't help me visualize the parts of the car that well, and
a .pdf file is hard to get around. Can't find anything from the usual
actors, like Chiltons (akk), Haynes, or Motors. Maybe I have to take
pictures of the parts of the car.((

VF, for once I agree with you! It appears that none of the usual
suspects (Bentley, Haynes, Chilton) make paper manuals for the
Imprezza after 1997 or '98. I ended up getting the CD version for our
car, and print out the section I need. I hate getting grease on my
computer! I'm okay with the drawings, they seem to pretty detailed.

It's nice you agree with me. I'll Try Not to let it happen again.))

I really don't trust any shop manuals, I have found mistakes even in
factory ones, that caused some problems, like the wrong plugs fouling,
and at 18 I had to figure out the right ones and install them, after
the dealer rebuilt the motor and didn't solve the problem, on a new
car with 3K mi. They wouldn't change them so did the rebuild.
Shouldn't have had the same plugs as the 2-4bbl Police version.

Chiltons got me crazy, with mistakes they made in one I had, that was
a hard bound book specifically for the model, year, And Motor. Got me
the  car like I had, real cheap, since the mechanic that had been
working on it must have had the same book, and Couldn't get the car
running right. Had the float in the carb set wrong, giving 3-5mpg in a
compact V-6. The setting was, .42",  and it said to use a 7/16 drill
bit for a gauge, and who ever copied it must have figured they would
also list a # 58 drill bit as a guage. A machinist friend was watching
me, asking if I knew what i was doing, and said I would figure it out.
He was reading the book and started ranting that I was using the Wrong
drill bit size. Saying a # 58 was like pencil lead. I don't know #
sizes and don't know if I had a 58, so was using a 7/16". After I
finished I looked up why he was  SO panicked, and a # 58 is .042, Not .
42. Could see by the fuel varnish mark on the float that is usually
level, that was on an angle, that it wasn't set right. The girl I got
the car from in 80' said she spent 1K$ on the car and it Still didn't
run right.

Changing the wires on the car got pretty hairy. Pulled a few off by
accident, and figured I had the firing order so could figure it out,
and pulled them all. They didn't look like they were going where I had
remembered, but Hey, I had the manual.  Luckily I live near a library,
and could go look up the order. They had the firing order from the
Next yrs Similar motor, that was bigger, with different heads,
exhaust, AND firing order. I made a copy and taped it over the wrong
one, and the car didn't cough, backfire, and spit flames out the carb.
My Chevy is starting to miss again, and I broke down and bought a set
of wires, but Hate to replace what I can fix. Fixed 2 bad wires in the
past few yrs, but I guess after 20yrs, and a few failures, Plus a 2nd
car to deal with, I Should change them, but it is Against My
Grain!!)))

Not knowing the Subes intametly, I'd like to see pics in a book,
Plus being able to page back and forth, and Even find the sections
easier. On the CD, I can't find things very easy. I don't have a
printer set up, but may have to, but I Hope Only for things I want to
change.)

Picked up a Haynes manual for 00' to 06' Subaru's, except the
Impreza. Figured I could get enough info I could use on the Prez till
I get up to speed learning the car. Still haven't seen detail on the
manual shifter, and how it shifts the gears. Back to the CD, to see if
that shows me.
