Guess they are going after a different market now. Disappointing, as I
thought the STi would be the more Evo-like of the WRX/STi pair. The
Evo is certainly the better-looking of the pair, that's for sure!

I would think, being smaller and lighter (with a bigger block, no less),
it would make some impressive numbers against the EVO.  I think the
computer is pretty cool, and the interior is a bit better, the EVO
definitely made some serious strides this time.  The EVO still looks
like a galant, that's just me.

I have an 06 STi, and I still say the only subies I ever found sexy were
the first generations.

And now, finally, there is a car for people who can't decide between
an
EVO and a BMW 328/335: they can have a car that combines the worst
features of both: lacking the driving dynamics of evo and lacking the
refinement of the bmw.
A blunt tool with a refinement in between.

I wonder how would the cheaper, castrated GSR (no yaw control)
would compare to the newly castrated rex.

Hmmm,
Test drove Mazda Speed3?

Or a magazine that wants more ad money from mitsu/chrysler/jeep et all

Rrrrright. The evil mitsu/chrysler paid big bucks to all publications
to
that they load bricks into the mitsubishi trunk for the ease of
rotation.
Which part of "understeer" you don't understand?
You must be a lawyer or politician to think anything about the car
dynamics
is subjective.
You can easily rotate mitsu and you can't do so in STI. Kapisch?

I'm not in a mood for another front wheel driver no matter how frisky,
but
I'd imagine that car is gobs of fun. Still, you got rex over
mazdaspeed3
for your son, didn't you?
That won't have anything to do with the winter traction where you
live,
would it?

Hi,
Two reasons I had to stay with Subie. AWD and seating. Seating for
driver is really uncomfie on Speed3. Copared to old Impreza we had
this WRX handles much better. As an after thought, I think we souped up
suspension on that old car way too much. Learning process I guess.

They should probably have tested with the same tires. Plus, the STI was
faster 0-80. They also said it was a better daily driver.

To me, the bigger issue was the price difference! massive!

What ever happened to 'Subaru - Inexpensive And Built To Stay That Way' ?

Oh? Last time I started RE070 thread people on this ng were screaming
at the top of their lungs it's the best summer tire ever.

> faster 0-80. They also said it was a better daily driver.

I don't see how vague steering would make it so.
.5 extra liter = better low end? that part makes it a better driver?

> To me, the bigger issue was the price difference! massive!

Evo MR is also $36k and GSR at 33k is not much cheaper.
Are you referring to the IX RS that you could've had for about $27k?
I don't think that trim is offered any longer.

> What ever happened to 'Subaru - Inexpensive And Built To Stay That Way' ?

What do you mean? I'd expect STI to stay together better than EVO.
I there something I'm missing?

Can you spin the wheels on Speed3 from the dead stop?
What was specifically the problem with the seats?

Um, did you read the article? Look at the charts?

price as tested - STI was nearly $6K more!!!

Yokohama vs Dunlop tires.

STI; better mileage, longer range, better braking, more headroom, more
legroom, almost 3 TIMES cargo capacity.

Not 'junk' - just a little lower performance in 2-3 specific areas.(and
overpriced)

I don't think the price comparison of a bloated STI to bare bones
EVO was valid. But, then could you put a price tag
on a dual clutch tranny of Mr?

> Yokohama vs Dunlop tires.

advans D007 vs RE070? they should be comparable.
If you trust the RE070 reviewers. The grip is not as much of
an issue as the car behavior in a skid and per review
the evo is joy to skid due to yaw control.
And in sti the reviewers could not get the a.s to rotate period.

I would not call inability to rotate the car "a little lower
performance".
Apparently FHI realizes that and not being able (or willing)
to compete in the driving dynamics area
it just wants to carve a different niche altogether and sell sti as-
is.

It's apples to oranges now: dual clutch and yaw control
vs gps and creature comforts.

I think I already had plenty of boring pieces of sh.t (TM) and don't
want another one. YMMV.

I thought you were a Honda hater.
I see now you're just basically a troll.
What the hell *DO* you like? Sand pounded where the sun don't shine?

Within Subaru line now that 08 wrx is out I have developed an
irrational liking of
02-07 wrxes.
