I recently had my car serviced at the dealer. One of the things they did
was flush out the transmission fluid. This was two weeks and around 300
miles ago. Today I was doing the routine fluids check on my cars. When I
checked the Forester's tranny fluid, it was overfilled. I removed about
10 ounces of fluid to get at the correct level. Do you think this is
something that could have damaged the tranny? The car was driving
normally all along. TIA!
All the best,
Ben

Be sure to follow the 'procedure' and recheck again soon. Generally, the
car should be parked on level ground and left runnning after having been
drivien to normal operating temps., then, (with foot on brake) move the
gear shift lever through each gear, then back to park. Then check for
the fluid level to be at the HOT mark.

If you still think the level was about 10ozs too much - I'm gonna guess
that it is too small an amount over too short a period of time to damage
anything.

Also keep in mind it's pretty hard to get the level right the first time
around.

I had mine done at the dealer and it was under filled by a lot.  It LOOKED
ok when you did the proper proceedure, but after a week, it was low again.

So I'd top it off.

Then it was fine for two weeks, then low again.

So I'd top it off.

Then it stopped needing it. So it wasn't leaking. There are A LOT of nooks
and crannies in there that might not have gotten filled properly.

So, yeah, definately check it weekly until the level stablizes.
