Differential noise when turning sharp. . .

98 Outback w/250K miles... runs excellent, except at slow speed, sharp
turn particularly in reverse - differential binds - feels like you put
on brakes, have to push gas to continue back, does it some forward.
Fuse installed in FWD box... didn’t change it. Should I just live with
it till it blows at this mileage? Thanks L W

Sounds like torque bind, not differential troubles. Its an automatic,
I assume?

If the duty-C solenoid is broken, or if the AWD clutch mechanism is
severely grooved, the FWD fuse will have no effect.

Of course, if its a manual trans the FWD fuse doesn't connect to
anything.

A fallback position would be to remove the rear axle shafts and just
use stub axles to hold the rear wheel bearings together, no more bind
but no more AWD either.

Usually you can just live with the binding, and try to avoid
situations where it tends to happen.

Make sure all 4 tires are the same model and wear. Otherwise - what ^^^
said.
