I got a heater for the washer fluid fopr Christmas. Anyone have any experience with this thing, is it worth installing. My car satys outside at night and it does get frost/snow quite regularly. Thanks! Washer fluid heater, gees what will they think of next. Washer fluid wont freeze till near 10f, there are types that work till -40. But the secret ingrediant is denatured alcohol, 7$ a gallon I just add a bit near 0f. 100 watts 12hrs- x30 days costs me 5$ a month to run. Sounds like a waste of time and money to heat washer fluid, now a seat heater, block heater ok. not sure what you have but if it is the kind of hose that wraps around your radiator hose they car will have to warm up completely before it shoots any warm water. I made one for my older camry like this. Once warm it helped, it helped a lot in the summer for removing windshield bugs with warm water. In the last couple of weeks I've seen a adv. on TV about a new car that shoots 100+ degree water on the windshield to de-ice the thing. Can't remember the brand of the car but it's a US made auto. Would kind of think that hot water might crack the windshield when it hits it but sure appears to take care of the ice in a hurry! In under 0 f hot water will crack a winshield if poured on, Im sure a small amount should be safer but there may be a reason its never been a standard option, I know people who have cracked their winshields from warm tap water. Denatured alcohol works, it is the ingrediant of washer fluid so it does not freeze. ~I got a heater for the washer fluid fopr Christmas. You cut the windshield water hose before the split to the two wipers, and insert this thing. It comes with a very large battery cable, so it must make a lot of heat in a hurry. I just hope it isn't sucking electricity all of the time. I just saw the tv add for a buick Lacerne that shows heated wiper fluid, But I wonder on temp and how its tested or saftey proofed to not crack glass at -10 -30f. For example auto heat wont come on a GM till 110f, overdrive on Toyota won`t activate till 110f. Hot water on cold glass is a shock to the glass. It shouldn't be a problem to install considering the description. You must have a chip free windshield or you will have a a spiderwebbed windshield in short order.
