Grateful for good advice!

Open up the drivers window is never a problem. Power window stalls when
shutting. After a minute or so, another inch can be closed.
Dealer said that child protecting fuse kicked in to avoid straining and
destroying power window motor. He suggested lubricating the sliding areas,
I've tried that and it has not helped much.
Any suggestions.

Did you already try exposing the window mechanism and lubricating them.
Besides lubrication it could also be a misallignment problem.

Classic symptom of a bad motor. When they start dying, resistance increases
in the windings and the sucker overheats. Thats why you are able to move it
again after a few minutes of rest. You don't have a problem lowering it yet
because it is much easier to lower a window than it is to raise it. The
dealer should have offered to actually diagnose the problem instead of
making something up. Was it the service writer?
The way this is normally diagnosed is by removing the door panel and
checking for voltage at the window motor plug. If the motor is recieving
voltage but not moving the window, then you know what you have to replace.

As others said, the motor is probably bad.

Child protection fuse? Put the service writer's fingers there and test
the protection fuse. Your dealer is full of it.

I have the exact same problem on the passenger side (99 LE).  My
mechanic also suggested lubricating the rubber seal around the window.
That didn’t do any good so we had him disable the motor, so I
wouldn’t get the window down and not be able to get it up for several
hours (an inch at a time).  After reading this, I am going to take the
door panel off and try lubricating everything in site. will let you
know what happens

Also let us know how old is the car's battery (like original?). I've
seen this on weak batteries in other cars.
