If it's an automatic also change out the strainer and wipe clean the
pan. I'd use the ~$20 Fram ATF kit that includes a strainer and a cork-
rubber gasket. I use Valvoline's GM-Dexron III ATF.
There should be a layer of metal shavings on the bottom of the pan and
the strainer should have metal shavings as part of normal wear and
tear.

Get a pro to do it, you are NOT qualified

You should also take a shower every few days and change the coolant,
but I guess manuals are only for the dogs to play with...........

check your owners manual.Failing that? get on the net and find out
when you should change your TF.
The owners manual should be the car owners mainteneance bible.....
My`02 Camry-4 auto does not require changing the fluid at all, unless
used to pull a trailer .
(However I changed mine at the 96,000 K maintenance interval) Its
cheap insurance.
The fluid recomendation is /..T-IV. In older model Camrys you should
follow the book.
It was written by Toyota engineers to provide the best NOMINAL care
for your vehicle.
Be assured they dont just speak to hear themselves talking.

internal parts wear , city driving is especialy hard, to not change
oil or extend intervals just promotes problems. Some manufacturers say
engine oil can go 7500miles but on that car drivin in winter on short
trips is can be ruined in 2000 miles. Cheap insurance is clean fluids.

With that high mileage and no fluid changes, I'd do the manual drain and
fill routine a few times until the fluid is almost all replaced, but I'd
never NEVER get the trans.
flushed.....I think that would be like asking for trouble, given these
numbers and no fluid changes.

I don't believe in power flushes because worn clutch material and
metal shavings in the pan can get pushed back through the cooler line
into the torque converter. Normally some ATF goes from the ATF pump to
the cooler and the converter before going back into the pan.
Also, there is no way a power flush can clean a strainer screen. Fluid
seeks the path of least resistance and the flush will not scrub the
strainer for you. A $20 Fram ATF kit with cork rubber gasket is a good
deal. But make sure everything is lint free and ATF is filled to the
proper level or risk transmission damage. I use Valvoline GM-Dexron
III ATF. About $2 a quart on sale.
I agree best way is to drop the pan, change the strainer, and fill it
back up with cealn GM-Dexron fluid to the proper level.
