I have a 97 Camry with a type 2-2 (am/fm/cassette, no CD). Each front door
has a
6-inch factory installed speaker. I want to replace them with equivalent or
similar speakers but I think I'll need to know more about the current ones
(ohms, watts, etc.).
Does anyone have any suggestions or caveats?
Thanks. Doc

There would most probably be a small label on the speakers magnet
which tells you all these details.

Watts is irrelevant when buying speakers. Most speakers are 4-8 ohms. I
would go to a store and get some moderately priced aftermarket speakers made
for cars.
I had all the speakers in my 98 Camry replaced soon after purchasing the car
at an car audio shop. I got some high-end Boston Acoustics, but there are
other brands that are more moderately priced. Try Best Buy, Circuit City, or
other electronic retailers.
You will have replace both sides at the same time (or it will not sound
right), and it would help if you replaced those on the rear deck as well
(but not absolutely necessary).

www.crutchfield.com sells many different makes of speakers. They'll
list per application if that helps. However, many aftermarkets usually
use the round 6"/6.5" in both front and rear. Even though the rears
are more like 6x9.
Preliminary googling suggested that I'd stay away from Infinity and
Eclipse. Any thoughts?
