Winter time.....looking for a Christmas gift for my daughter who has a
1998 Camry with "carpeted floor mats," which are rapidly getting
soiled in the winter muck.
So, looking for rubber mats of some kind that will STAY in place. I
have a set of generic rubber mats for my '03, but they slide all over
the place....a bit of a pain for me, but a "ticket to an accident" for
a young, inexperienced driver.
Called the local Toyota dealer, said they don't have any original
Toyota rubber mats, nor can they get anything for any car older than
'02.....he said it's a common request.
Anyway, he suggested looking into the WeatherTech brand....anyone with
any other thoughts, suggestions....

Hi,
I have a 1995 2 Litre Camry owned it sonce new.
The mats were just to expensive from Toyota.
I selected some nice rubber backed hard bristle door mats from ASDA.
WAL MART for USA.
They were £3.00. or $6.00 each.
They cut down easy.
And fit the car " well " very well.
Move a little but not much to worry about.

They can't find mats for anything older than an 02? Strange, I have an 07
Camry and Toyota sold me heavy duty mats that fit perfectly.

On my old car I used the 3M floormats but I never used them in snow.
On my 07 Camry I have the carpeted floor mats. I just washed mine the
other day with dishwashing liquid and a brush and dried them overnight
using our wall heater. (Northern NJ, 1" snow last Sunday) Looks like
new, well its only 17k miles. Might be too late for a 9 yr old
floormat.

Weather Tech is the industry standard.
They've been making them for decades.
Molded to fit, not slip, and contain water and slush.
Car and Driver has been carrying their ads for years. Just look in any
newstand issue and you'll see them in the back pages.
Decide how you like them.
Imagine your daughter would be quite pleased with these.
IIRC they're supposed to actually hold a gallon of water.

Where (what country) are they made? I'd like to avoid Chinese mats,
but the NAPA ones I'm using in my car are too small and slide around.

I visited the WeatherTech website and ended up ordering them direct
from WeatherTech, paid a couple of extra bucks for shipping, but the
actual mat price seemed about the same as most of the "reliable"
places I found on the web and much cheaper than I found them on Ebay.
They are made in Illinois...http://www.weathertech.com/
Mats should arrive next Wednesday by FedEx Ground.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

You are still using those floor mats? Did you hear about the Toyota
recall? I'm
not sure what the recall covers.
"For more information on the floor mat recall, consumers can contact
the NHTSA Hotline at 888-327-4236 or their Toyota or Lexus dealer."
Maybe they have the revised set available for you to pick up!

Thanks for the heads-up, but the recall information I heard was for
Toyota Rubber floor mats. As I mentioned, I have generic rubber mats
(NAPA auto store brand) in my '03, and my daughter's has Toyota, but
carpeted, not rubber....so no freebie from TOY this time....

Toyota OEM floor mats (not the originals but the ones that are purchased
extra) are grossly overpriced. I've used "Pantssaver" mats in the front of
my Camry since 1999. For the back seat floor, I use the mats from my 1985
Hyundai Pony..long since dead.

I agree...the TOY mats are a big RIP....
But, in my daughter's car we bought it used....and they are in perfect
shape....The classic little old lady from Pasadena buy, even in a 10-
year-old car.
But, help me. I am confused.....I am a very irregular visitor. I go
for several months and not visit or post and then I spend a week or
two posting and disappear again....but....and I admit my memory may be
faulty.....and I don't want to insult....but didn't SHARX used to
be....how to phrase it nicely....less than helpful in the past.
BUT, in the past few days, I have seen nothing but perfectly wonderful
and what seen to be VERY RIGHT ON POSTS from Sharx....maybe I have
just matured....Anyway....I've valued Sharx recently contributions
very much.

Ah, it's mainly on the political ones that I blow my wad. I just cannot
STAND terrorists or anyone who supports them, however indirectly.

Heavy duty safety pin into the carpet. Punch 2 holes (separated by an
inch or two) thru the mat. Attach mat to safety pin with very thin
nylon string.

WeatherTech is the standard. Been around for many years. I have one of
their door mats in my garage (not sure if they sell them any longer -
it was a closeout). Weighs a ton, wears like iron and remains pliable
in cold temperatures. Good stuff but I like carpeted mats in the car.
