The 4-cyl engine is non-interference, so you can leave it as long as you
understand that the engine will quit without warning, leaving you with
no power brakes/steering while you wrestle it to a stop on the side of
the road (hope you're not on the highway in the passing lane in
traffic).  You'll be paying for a tow on top of the cost of replacing
the belt.

If it's never been changed it needs a timing belt and water pump.

No dont change it, let it break in the middle of the highway so cars
run into you killing a few people. Dumb question.

I *love* it when people reply with a nasty attitude rahter than just posting
the facts...

Thanks for bringing the love...

However, good points made.  Change the thing and the water pump...  What
year Camry?

Hmmmmmmm.

No one wants to be sitated, that's for sure !

Actually, in 33 years of virtually daily driving I've never come
upon that. If the belt breaks it's like any other stall - you can still
pull over to the shoulder. It *can* happen, but you're more likely to
get creamed by someone driving (or trying to drive) an SUV. Maybe our
eloquent friend will start in on SUVs... assuming he doesn't drive one.

Yep.  Sure have.

Had it happen to me on the highway before I learned about it...  It was not
an attack on you, it was an attack on your rude attitude.  Thus my words:

Nice...  Keep showing us your IQ by way of your language skills...

I guess we are suppose to feel sorry for ppl like that. His parents
treated him like that and most likely he's treating his kids like
that. 1 thing we learned, not to read anything he post.

It's a 1999. How about yours?

I had a 1988 which I gave away at around 250,000...  It needed a loving home
with lots of money and body work repair experience.  :)

I now have a 1999 with 163,000...  Actually, my wife's...  ...I *think* it's
a 1999...  :)

When you are in a 4 lane highway and your car just dies rarely can you
"Pull over" I say again even if im rude , that not done  maintenance
kills people. I remember when many states had Saftey Inspections,  to
keep cars safe and not cause accidents, it is few now and He would not
pass, likely for many reasons, so Rude as it may seem , saftey is not
taken or known by most. In the past he would not have been issed a
sticker for his lisence without proper maintanance, That is the way it
should still be, but states cut it back because of cost , So get the
moron off the fuckin road.......

You were doing just fine and somewhat making a good point until you called
someone a moron and dropped the F-Bomb.  There was ocne a time when people
respected each otehr and could disagree in a public forum without acting
like 12 year old kids...  Maybe there are some budget cuts in that area too?
