CD Player issue

I have a 2008 Camry with the standard single CD player (not JBL upgrade) I
have had the car for about a month and am experiencing the following
problem. After working with no issues for about a week, the CD player while
playing a CD will suddenly make a loud clunk sound.  At this point the CD
can not be played, it can not be ejected. The first time it happened I
contacted the dealer, was told the next appointment was in 6 days.  After 3
days it went back to working. After this had happened twice each time
resolving it's self in 2-3 days, it occurred again today.  I called the
dealer and pleaded that I could bring it in for him to see it. They agreed,
but when I went down to drive the car to the dealer the CD was working
correctly.

The error message that comes up on the screen is "ERROR 1"

The CD's are in excellent shape (checked out from lending library but do not
appear to have any scratches or any other blemishes)

All 3 times the CD stuck I was driving on interstate highway at just about
the same point. Slight bump in road surface but not noticeable in the Camry.

I recognize that a mechanic can not fix something that he can not see or
repeat, but this is becoming very frustrating.  One of my co-workers has
said it has happened to him in his Camry about once every 2-3 months for the
4 years he has owned the car. His solution is to pull the fuses for the
radio and then reset them and it goes back to working.  I do not however
consider that acceptable.

Sooner or later your CD will not eject no matter what you do - happened to
me on the Camry and the Nissan. Best to get documentation of it like a
registered letter detailing the problem to Toyota which will offer you some
options after the warranty period. I brought the problem to the Nissan one
day after the warranty (warranty ended on a Sunday) but they refuse to fix
it under warranty. As for the Camry, the changer went south just after the
warranty. It had problem of not ejecting before but I always got it to work
so I didn't take to Toyota for a look - big mistake as it was the pricey 6
CD changer.

Thanks for advice.  This evening as I left work it happened again.  I was 3
blocks from the nearest Toyota shop and I took it there.  The service writer
observed the error and told me to bring the car in first thing tomorrow for
them to order a replacement unit.  BTW - it started working when I got home.

I had a similar problem with the 6 disc changer in my Avalon.   It wouldn't
play, wouldn't
change discs and wouldn't eject.   Finally got the guts to take the unit out
and found that
there were TWO discs jammed into the playing turntable.   I carefully got
them out, and
reassembled the unit into the dash, and fed the discs back in, and it has
worked fine ever since
...over two years and no further problem.   I was amazed to find out that
the unit was made
by Delco!
