Hi,

I have 1997 Camry LE - 4Cyl.

I am experiencing a new problem on my camry.

I was driving at 40mph.. and at Red Signal light, I was slowing down.  My
car was throttling (Shaking) and Engine was off.  All lights on the
dashboard were On.

Restarted the engine, and moved on.. It happened again after 30 mts..

Appreciate if you could hint what problem it is  and repair solution too ??

Some one was telling it could be related to Transmission fluid and some
others say Engine Idling..

Greatly appreciate your help.

Regards,
Rama

Could be the EGR modulator.  I had the exact same symptoms, and
replaced mine.

Between $40 and $80, if I recall correctly, for the EGR modulator.

Depends on how comfortable you are working around your car.

Put it this way:  3+ years ago, besides oil changes, I knew nothing
about cars.  Then my radiator blew out on my '96 Camry.  Cost me
$1,000 to fix at the dealership - all because I neglected the coolant.

That was a very expensive lesson for me.  After that, I resolved to
learn as much as I could, to avoid $1,000+ repairs at the dealership.

Best wishes,

Michael

The 97 generation you can start by cleaning the idle air control valve
(google "camry IAC cleaning"). This is a notorious issue especially
after (97) Toyota cranked up the cylinder head temperature for the low
emissions rating.

See if the engine will keep running if you give it a little gas. This
opens up the throttle plate and lets more air through when the IAC
valve couldn't.

The EGR system, except for plugging up with carbon, is simple and
otherwise fairly reliable.
