I'd have to agree, based on limited ezperience. The flasher unit itself
seldom fails, but poor contacts at the bulb often cause the flasher to flash
too fast. It seems I've been whacking on the frront fenders of my '97
Camry every few weeks for years to regain contact in the bulbs.

Sometimes the turn signals don't work at all. No dash lights, no
clicking sound, no nothing. Then I press the hazard light button and
all four lights work. After that, the turn signals start working
again. I'm thinking the relay may have been stuck. If it fails again I
may have to replace it. However, I won't be able to replace it if I
can't get it out. It seems to be locked in, since it won't budge when
I pull on it, but I can't find a way to unlock it. Can anyone help?

Did you try and reseat the bulb and pull up/out on the contacts?

Sounds more like the turn signal switch.

It's been working fine ever since I activated the hazard lights, which
are the same as the turn signal lights except that the flasher turns
on all four at the same time instead of two at a time with the turn
signal lever. Don't know what the problem was, but it's gone now. So,
can anyone tell me how to remove the flasher in case I ever need to?
I'm really curious about how that thing is supposed to come out.

I think the others are right in that the problem may be with the
defective socket designs. The socket was somehow oversized and the
side tabs don't make good contact. But only those owners who
complained got new sockets free during warranty.
I have not used the following tool, but pulling the flasher straight
out should work (or just pull harder, there isn't room for typical
pliers):

It's just a generic electronic (not mechanical) flasher at your local
parts store:

johngd -
Thanks for the info. Now that I can see from your link what the bottom
of the flasher looks like, I can see that it should pull straight out.
The next time the turn signals don't work, the first thing I will do
is wiggle the flasher or tap on it to see what happens. If that has no
effect, I'll check out the other items suggested in the above replies.
However, ever since I activated the hazard signals, the turn signals
have been working fine.
