I ran my '04 4-Runner down to nearly empty on the gas gauge, and no warning
light or buzzer ever activated. What's up with that? Hasn't a low fuel level
alert been pretty standard on every car built in the last 20 years? I have
found those little lights to be a lot more practical than carrying around a
couple extra gallons of gas in a can...

You have a low fuel light, it just doesn't come on until you are
down to about 2 gallons. Far too low in my opinion.
The light is just below and to the left of the fuel guage. It's just a
small round amber light that comes on, I don't remember for sure, but I
don't think it actually says low fuel or anything useful.

Two gallons? Sheesh, that's like less than 40 miles (now equivalent to $4). Thanks
for the info. Not sure I'll ever be brave enough to take it that low just to see it
light up though!
