I did a timing chain with my new timing chain kit on my 1994 toyota 22re
engine, and i did it over almost 10 times! I keep coming up short on TDC
just about a half a tooth left or right on my cam gear (dot to arrow). My
crank gear is at "0" TDC at all times. I tried all variations! I followed
the directions step by painstaking step each and everytime and keep coming
up short just a half a tooth at:

I also used my "Haynes" manual!
Can anyone help me? I am willing to call anyone via phone at anywhere in
the world if you give me your number. my number is 15082921778.   I live
in Cape Cod, Massachusetts U.S.A.

As I replied to your e-mail, see the photo at:

Look at the upper right hand picture, you'll see a 1/2 tooth offset
between the dot on the cam sprocket and the bright link on th etiming
chain.

To line up chain you place lighter links on dots on crank and
cam.  So it you turn crank till lighter links are again at dots on
crank and cam then it is okay.  Also as long as the chain guides in
place it is okay.  Don't forget some tensioners are hydraulically
operated so they don't have full pressure till engine is running,
although I'm not sure about this engine.  I replaced chain on my 89
toyota 22re with timing cover removed and followed book and just made
sure lighter links lined up with dot on crank and cam and turned a few
times till they lined up again and bolted everything together and it
is okay.
