Anyone know if the xrunner will be as impossible to get as the srunner?
After spotting srunners at a dealer like 3 years ago, I couldn't find
one when I wanted it. Why make a hotrod if people can't buy it?

Sounds like the same game they are playing with the Prius. Demand has
outstripped supply for several years but they seem content to waddle along
producing large volumes of fuel inefficient models.
Bad management?

No, bad subcontracting.
The batteries for the Prius are made by Panasonic in Japan, and Panasonic
can't produce the batteries fast enough. Toyota could keep up with the
demand for Prius's if Panasonic could keep up with the demand for batteries.

I'm pretty sure that if you went to a dealer anywhere in the US and
said I want a X-Runner and I'm willing to put down some $$$, they will
get one for you.

I am pretty sure after the '01 model year, the s-runner was only available
as a special order. I usually see a nice one every month or so on eBay. The
x-runner is out, only 3500 being made, and they are currently 3k over msrp.
Personally, I'd keep an eye out for a used s-runner with the supercharger
over an x-runner.

I just bought one yesterday! I had never even heard of one before! My 2000
Tundra blew a fuel pump and I saw it on the lot when mine was being worked
on. After I drove it I had to have it so I traded down from a Tundra and
bought it. They only had one and said they didn't know if they could get
anymore. They said each dealer that was selling alot of Tacoma's was
getting one only. It had been one the lot for 3 weeks and had 88 miles on
it. It's one sweet machine! I'm going to take it out to Texas Motor
Speedway and drive on the 1.5 Mile Oval and the 1 mile infield road
course.
