I was having the same problem with the CD player in my 2000 Tundra..
I used one of the lens cleaning CDs and found tiny pieces of paper
from a CD label on the brushes. It worked fine after removing the
rest of the pieces from inside the CD player. After this experience a
I use a marking pen instead of labels. It might not look as nice but
it's safer.
After about 2 more years it went dead and I replaced it with an AM/FM
CD player that also plays MP3s. Much better for long trips as one
mp3/CD will hold 2-4 books.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried the cd cleaner and it didn't help. I was
wondering if there were an adjustment that might bring it back. The Sony PS2
had the same problem where it would play some but not all cd's. That problem
was resolved by tweaking an internal adjustment.
