I wanted to ask what is involved to do this? Do you have to drop the
pan, just drain the fluid and replace, is there a filter? My dealer only
does power flushes at 124 bucks and I have heard good and bad about
doing it this way. Might be something I don't want to tackle but wanted
to ask first.

No filter - just drain and fill a couple of times using the right fluid -
without the power flush you will need to do it multiple times to get a full
swap of fluids.
You will only drain 4 quarts each time.

As long as the trans fluid looks good (original pink color, smells like
oil and not burnt plastic) a full flush is good long term insurance.
Yes it ain't cheap but consider what a tranny costs. Generic
recommendation is to do it every 24000 miles or two years. That's
conservative. You could get away with doing it somewhat less often.
But the key is that the fluid must look good. If the fluid is dark and
burnt, then leave it alone. Hope it helps. Al

Yesterday I did just a basic fluid drain and refill. The owners manual
says it takes 2 quarts doing this but mine held 4 quarts. I noticed the
famous "clunk" when I go to stop now is gone. The fluid did not look
real dirty. Go figure.

Was the car cold from sitting overnight? Some of the fluid that
would be inside the torque converter and the valve body of a warm
transmission drained back into the pan, nothing too unusual.
