Hi All,

My 2004 Sienna has about 46,000 miles and dealer told me I should get
new brakes within the next 5,000 miles.  They want to charge over $400 for
this.  My local mechanic can do this for alot less.  Is there anything
special that the dealer will do that a good local mechanic cannot do?

Thanks in advance.

The dealer can install OEM brake parts without having to go get them ;-)

Any competent technician should be able to replace the brakes, I recommend
that you ask that he use OEM brake parts instead of aftermarket parts, or
you can go get the parts yourself and bring them to the shop when you have
the work done.

Just the pads, I don't think so.  Do it yourself for under $50 or less.
The back breaks are drum unless you've got the high end Sienna.  Disk
brakes are easy to change out compared to drum, in my opinion.
