{OT:} Mitt's Heathcare plan...

Hachiroku ハチロク - 04 Mar 2007 15:47 GMT Since I am unemployed, I was looking forward to the new Massachusetts "Coverage For All" plan to kick in. Then I found out what it is...
Here's the deal. I have until June 1 to find healthcare coverage for myself. Now, since I am a white guy and do not have an Hispanic last name, I have NEVER qualified for MassHealth (a free or sliding-scale healthplan offered by Mass through...BLUE CROSS!!! It's better than a lot of private plans!!!) so often when unemployed I have had to use the ER (that makes sense...instead of providing healthcare to your citizens that will cost $40 per visit, you cover them at $250 per 'visit'...wonder why the state's broke?). So, I have to locate my own heathcare insurance. If I don't, next year on my taxes I will be 'assessed' $80. This then gives me until June of next year to locate healthcare coverage.
Now, some Ins Companies, at the Commonwealth's 'urging', are offering coverage for what was supposed to be $280, but will actually be $340 a month. Now, this isn't bad, but there is a $5,000 deductible and they don't cover a lot of stuff. I don't spend $5,000 in THREE years up to this point!!!
So, if I don't have healthcare coverage by June of NEXT year, when I file my taxes, I will be 'assessed' $4,080, or...$340 for each month without coverage!
WTF is that?!?! It's not Healthcare Insurance, it's Insurance Healthcare!!!

I know Howie Carr is out of Boston, that makes 1. . . .

(OTOH, how many real republicans are left in Illinois? Nobody's really sure anymore. There are a lot of RINO's like Betty Loren-Maltese (The Maltese Ugly) and Judy Barr Topinka, but most are running for the corners after George Ryan got convicted.)

Since you are not a liberal who wants the government to do everything for you why don't you look into buying yourself some short-term insurance or getting onto a group coverage policy with Aetna? I just purchased a 90-day policy with $250 deductible for my wife and kids for $450 while I am on probation with my new job for 90 days. Personally I can receive healthcare if I need it through the VA Hospital but I have yet to use those services thankfully.

LOL! Interesting point. Problem is, because of our auto insurance mess here, either the insurance companies have packed up and moved out or were told to move out! For example, Allstate told the insurance commission they didn't want to write auto policies anymore, so the insurance commission told them, then you aren't writing ANY policies in Mass! So, Allstate is off the table. State Farm is long gone.
On the other side, I just turned 50, let's see what AARP has to offer. I know they can't sell car insurance in Mass...

Since he's a conservative he should just get off his a.s and get a job that has good benefits and quit wanting the government to take care of him! It's obvious he's just a liberal, pansy a.s, lazy, drag on society. Of course you'd have no problem using the VA, but it's wrong to expect other citizens get help in heathcare. God help us if we ever gave help to person in need. I mean that's just money out of the pockets of those more deserving folks at Halliburton.

Remember, I'm 50. They don't WANT to give people my age jobs. You don't think I'd rather be working than sitting here waiting? I send out 3-5 resumes a week...over-qualified...we found a closer candidate... you'd probably be bored doing this...
As far as the Over-qualified (if I had a buck for every time i heard this, I wouldn't *NEED* a job!!!) and the "you'd be bored..." TRY ME!!!!!!

TRY ME!!!!!! You need to get something to hold you over. I know you're good with computers (my firewall has a hard time keeping you at bay) and you're a people person so how about applying at HomeDepot at the service desk? They sure as hell need somebody that's helpful courteous and kind. I wanted to pop the bitch behind the counter this afternoon. She mocked me right in front of my wife. I'll take care of that issue next time I'm there by myself.

She told me that when Home Depot started expanding into the North East they advertised for people with a 'southern' attitude toward customers. I see they have strayed....

Problem is, my Resume. They see Electronics at Hamilton Standard, Tech Support at GE, and all the computer stuff and I think it makes them nervous that I'll either get bored or want big $$$. Or stay just long enough to find another job. I don't play like that. You treat me right and let me do my work, I'll stay as long as you pay me! 4 Years at one place when I first started out, 9 at Hamilton, 3.5 at GE (they pulled the plug on Tech Support and farmed it out)
Unfortunately, since then it's been all downhill. If I apply for tech jobs I kind of have to put the Heavy Hitters on there, but that's what scares them...

What a commute. I had thought about going > there for it's graphics department (something different for a change). I was living in Southwick and driving to Bloomfield working for a MUCH smaller company. I met me wife there and we got engaged, and they changed bosses and gave me a REAL PITA, so I went everywhere, and HSD hired me. We moved to Westfield, and then to Warehouse point (I was putting <19 miles a day on the Hachiroku). Then we moved to Ware after 2 years. Wanna talk about commute?!?!

Mrs. Murphy's addict? If you were we maybe sat across from each other.

IIRC, if it's what I'm thinking of, it was a little eatery in the front of a house? Across from the Lakeview or whatever it was back then, between the upper and middle lakes.
If that's the place you're thinking of, I used to live at the end of the street that place was on the corner of...
And never went into the place!
mark_digital© - 06 Mar 2007 18:22 GMT >> [....] >>> I was living in Southwick [quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > > And never went into the place! Mrs. Murphy's is the little donut shop on 202. Another place I used to go to was back then called Nashville Supper Club. I'm sure you remember that one. It's now called Louie B's.

It's now called Louie B's. It wasn't Louis B's back then, I think it was the Lakeview. I knew it was some guy's name but couldn't think of it.
Across the street from Louis B's 26 years ago was a house with a little eatery in it. It was on the corner of a street, Babb's Rd, I think. (There's 2 Babb's Roads, one In CT that comes into Southwick at Louis B's, and the Mass Babb's Rd across the street from Louis B's). I used to live at the end of the road...in a barn. It was converted to a garage and an apartment, so I had a NICE garage to f@ck with my car in and a really nice little apartment.
When I got engaged my wife didn't want to live in a barn so we moved to Westfield; same LandLord.
mark_digital© - 06 Mar 2007 22:48 GMT >>>> [....] >>>>> I was living in Southwick [quoted text clipped - 31 lines] > When I got engaged my wife didn't want to live in a barn so we moved to > Westfield; same LandLord. Lakeview and Louie B's are two separate facilities about a good half mile apart. When I was a kid I used to work in this area, and low and behold, when I married my wife, her father owned a piece of property on Berkshire Ave. And it so happens that my old man's business had the name Berkshire in it. Wow, what a small world, eh?
Do you remember when United Technologies had changed it's name from United Aircraft? That new logo made me laugh so hard.
Were you at HSD when signs went up at their entrances saying "Good morning/evening. Today's date is ...... Please check the expiration date of your gauges"?
Hachiroku ハチロク - 06 Mar 2007 23:28 GMT >>>>> [....] >>>>>> I was living in Southwick [quoted text clipped - 35 lines] > Lakeview and Louie B's are two separate facilities about a good half mile > apart. Louis B's, I think...

That new logo made me laugh so hard. That's because they were using the same Logo as United Artists was, and since United Artists had it first, they threatened to sue if United Aircraft didn't get a new logo. Owing to the fact they were branching out from the Aircraft parts businesses (Otis Elevators and Carrier AC products) rather than change the logo they changed the name to United Technologies. And why did the logo crack you up? I got it right away. It's supposed to be the Impeller on the front of a Pratt & Whitney engine, but it's also supposed to show 'progression'.
The only problem is, don't look at the first card in a Rolodex!!!
> Were you at HSD when signs went up at their entrances saying "Good > morning/evening. Today's date is ...... Please check the expiration date > of your gauges"? When was that? You know, I can't remeber, but it seems familiar!
I got written up once for using some Heat Transfer compund on a heat sink that was one day past it's expiration date! And I got a warning for using a test rig that went out of date at midnight. I started my shift at 4:00, we worked until 12:30, and I used the test stand all night! Got written up for 15 minutes! My arguement was, if any calibrated settings went out, they did it long before 12AM!!! (I caused such a stink about it that they decided if a rig was IN USE at midnight, then it was OK till the end of that shift. However, they refused to remove the warning from my file!!!)

BOTH bands, Seven O's, route 16 Sunderland, tomorrow (Thursday) night. Should be out the door with both before 11PM...
I'd say one or the other will get up around 9PM.

mark_digital© - 08 Mar 2007 05:03 GMT I can't make it tomorrow night but there's still three Thursdays left in this month. Problem is I'm sure only one will be open but at the moment I don't know which one. I'll let you know hopefully by tomorrow.

Problem is I'm sure only one will be open but at the moment I > don't know which one. I'll let you know hopefully by tomorrow. It's tough to get the people together. In the Modern band, the guitar player doesn't want to go out on Week nights, since he has to get up early to go to work. Also, the singer and drummer are married and have trouble finding a sitter. They were thinking of cancelling tonight since the other band is going as they have to be home by 11!
The other band doesn't want to 'burn itself out' on Open Mics. The idea is to go to an open mic, play 5-6 songs, hope they go over well enough that the onwer hires us to hear more! (this has happened before...the Modern band and another band got gigs this way!)
So, unless we get booked, this may be a one shot deal to hear both at once!
Hachiroku ハチロク - 06 Mar 2007 18:00 GMT > [....] >> I was living in Southwick > [....] > > Mrs. Murphy's addict? If you were we maybe sat across from each other. Oh, BTW, looks like 7 Os this week, maybe with both bands. I might even be the 'House" bass player this week. Thursday night. We (that is, BOTH bands) are going to try to get up early, <9:30 if we can.
I'm the older guy with the NICE red bass (if the House bass plyer is there, he has a red 'beater' he uses, but is in his mid 30's)
tom418 - 06 Mar 2007 13:39 GMT I hear you.
Years ago, I answered an ad in The Hartford Courant for a lab job at the American Red Cross.
In my resume, I mentioned my M.S. degree in Clinical Chemistry. I got no response. Weeks later, I see the same ad again in the paper. I send out a fictitious resume, using a pseudonym who just "graduated" with a B.S. from UConn. TWO DAYS later, they call , asking to speak to my non existant friend. When I confronted them as to why they didn't call ME, they told me that they were afraid that "I'd be bored with the job".

How the hell do you know I'd be 'bored' with the job, unless you try me?!?!
I think the other thing was also Salary. A freshly-minted BS would demand a lower salary than an MS would...or so they think. They don't realize that some of us just LIKE working and would take just a little more than a Collge Kid. Also, I'm at the age now, I don't have to 'prove' myself, and if I get a job I like, I'm not going to go job-hopping. Done it already, but even still, my lowest stint with a company (that matters, that is...washing cars at a Toyota dealer doesn't count as a 'career move'... was 4 years! Unless I got laid off, of course. But voluntarily, I don't hop job to job unless there is a REAL good reason, esp if it's something I like.
