1991 pickup

I have a 1991 Toyota pickup that has started running rough and then
dieing, after it dies the the gas smell is terrible, the truck starts
after a while.
fuel filter, catalytic (sp) converter??????

If by "gas smell" you mean the odor of raw gasoline, and the truck is
carbureted, then the problem is probably with the carburetor.

If you smell partially burned gas, then the ignition system may be the
problem.
